In 2017, the outdoor and climbing community lost a true icon when Fred Beckey passed away. For many, Beckey was the first "dirtbag" climber, living out of his van and traveling from place to place just so he could keep pursuing the sport he loved. Now, he is the subject of a new documentary called Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey, which is making the rounds on the adventure film circuit now. Below, we have the official trailer for the film, which should give you an indication of what it is about. For some, it will no doubt be an introduction to the man who left a lasting legacy on climbing, for others it is a reminder of what made Fred so great.

Senior officials give the film unvarnished accounts of a 'whole drama' over how Syria was dealt with – and how there was nothing to force the Iranians to abide by their terms of the deal supposed to stop them from getting nuclear weapons.
In 'The Final Year' Ben Rhodes, Obama's deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, also says that it took 'too long' to get the measure of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The documentary, shot by director Greg Barker and produced by Magnolia Pictures, followed Obama and his cabinet during his final 12 months in office.

Video: The Relentless River of Everest
Yesterday's story about Ben Stookesberry exploring the Dudh Kosi River in Nepal seemed to have captured the attention of quite a few readers. In that post, I mentioned a British expedition that made the first descent of the river back in 1976, creating a classic paddling documentary called Everest by Canoe, which would later be renamed the Relentless River of Everest. In that post, I shared a trailer for the film, which was enough to give us a taste of what that expedition was like. Today, I have the full film, which is 45-minutes of intense expedition kayaking action. The film is a wonderful throw-back to a different era, and truly generates a great sense of adventure about what the explorers were doing in the Himalaya. This is a classic BBC film, and if you have the time, I highly recommend you watch the entire thing.

The latest adventure documentary from Sender Films just might be their best yet. It's called Valley Uprising, and it is their long-awaited chronicle of the history of climbing in Yosemite National Park, one of the greatest rock climbing destinations in the world. The film will feature archival photographs and footage from Yosemite Valley, where a counterculture revolution took place around the climbing scene that rose up there. The great looking trailer for the film can be seen below. The full documentary is scheduled for release this fall, and it certainly looks like one to keep an eye on.

The film follows the young men and women who are part of the NorCal High School Cycling League, which is made up of high school students who race mountain bikes competitively. The film got a lot of buzz when it was released a couple of years back, and it remains a great film to watch today. If you haven't seen it before, pull up a chair, get comfortable and put the video in "full-screen" mode. I think you're going to like it.

Here's a real blast from the past for Everest historians. It is a 50 minute documentary produced back in 1978, when the thought of climbing Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen seemed like a crazy idea. It follows Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler as they make the first ascent of the mountain without using gas. Looking back on this now, it seems ridiculous, but 30 years ago, the mountaineering world was very different.
