Here’s a recap of what else happened with the state’s pro and college track and field athletes in the first full weekend of competition:

In Edinburgh, Scotland, Garrett Heath of the Seattle based Brooks Beasts (left/photo by John Nepolitan, dyestat.com) raced to a sixth place finish at the Great Edinburgh X Country Challenge race, finishing the 8k course at Holyrood Park Saturday in 25:03.

SACRAMENTO—Drew Windle (left/photo by Paul Merca) of the Brooks Beasts borrowed a page from the Nick Symmonds school of 800 meter running and somehow found his way into Sunday’s finals.

In the second of two semi-final heats, Windle, who was in last through 500 meters, worked his way back into the race, to get near the top four spots with 100 meters to go.

In Birmingham, Alabama, the University of Washington scored a historic achievement in school history, as the men’s team finished a program best sixth place with 24 points at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex, while the women’s team finished 13th with 16 points, the second highest in school history.

INDIANAPOLIS—The NCAA announced its field for both the Division I and II indoor track and field championship meets Tuesday.
