 | The politician who proposed Northern Ireland’s anti-gay amendment is deciding whether to listen to our global outcry. Will you chip in for a massive billboard van? It will drive non-stop around Belfast and his constituency, to push him to drop his plan. | |
Dear ,
Northern Irish politician Paul Givan is right now deciding whether to submit his anti-gay clause. He wants to make it legal for businesses to turn lesbian, gay and bi people away.
Imagine him stepping out of his office to see a massive billboard van drive by, saying “230,000 say NO to an anti-gay law in Northern Ireland.” He’ll know that his constituents will see the billboard too. The risk of damage to his reputation could be enough for him to drop his plan.
On Friday – the final day of the public consultation – the All Out staff team sent Paul Givan more than 200,000 signatures opposing his anti-gay clause. 40,000 were from Northern Ireland. It’s a huge shout-out in support of equality in Northern Ireland. He’s not yet responded to the petition and we need to make sure he can’t ignore our voices.
Pro-equality politicians in Northern Ireland have teamed up to stop the law. Last week, several Assembly members tweeted to All Out that they’ll vote against it. Our people-powered billboard van will prove to politicians that it's not just a handful of us that think that Givan's ideas are offensive - but enough of us to club together and put our message right where politicians can't escape it.
If All Out members donate more than the cost of the billboard van, the extra money will be spent on other campaigning for love and equality – in Northern Ireland and beyond.
In 2013, All Out members raised $30,000 dollars to pay for advertising asking Coca Cola to protest about Russia’s anti-gay laws around the Sochi Olympics. As a result, some national sponsors of the Olympics spoke out. When we stand together for equality, we win - will you chip in to make sure our voices aren’t ignored in Northern Ireland? go.allout.org/en/a/n-ireland-billboard Thanks for going All Out,
Andre, Guillaume, Oscar, Rose and the All Out team
P.S. All Out members have hit the news in Northern Ireland: our huge petition was covered by influential newspaper, The Belfast Telegraph, and on drivetime BBC radio. But we need to keep on pushing to make sure Paul Givan drops his anti-gay plan. Chip in £10 now for a giant billboard van that he can't ignore: go.allout.org/en/a/n-ireland-billboard
