Novelist Fay Weldon claims to have had two 'near-death experiences' during surgery.
Fay Weldon was an atheist, but her two 'out-of-body experiences' have made her believe in an afterlife.
She says: "In one I saw the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel, and there was certainly an extraordinary sense of warmth, communality and progress."
BUT, for anyone hoping for an easier life after death, Fay Weldon says of life after death: "It was just more of the same - hard work, two steps forward, one step back."

Asked about death, she said: "Yes! Roll on. I don’t fear it but I know what it is to fear it - my mother did.
"I was with her when she died aged 94.
"She was too brave to say anything but we knew from her expression that she was frightened of the unknown."
The Life and Loves of a She-Devil is a 1983 novel by Fay Weldon about a highly unattractive woman who goes to great lengths to take revenge on her husband and his attractive lover. The book, Weldon insists, is about envy, rather than revenge.
Asked if she feels more comfortable in herself as she gets older, she said: "I don’t think I was ever uncomfortable.
"I’m always baffled by people trying to find their 'true self' - there isn't one.
"We're a bundle of opinions and experiences which add up to a person recognisable to others, and that's all you can hope for."
