St Barts

We spent the days leading up to Christmas at St Bart's. We anchored at Shell Beach just a short dingy ride from the main harbour in Gustavia. We had the anchorage to ourselves and enjoyed snorkeling right off the boat.

We moved to Columbier to do some snorkeling and hiking. On our hikes we saw tortoise, iguana and the cutest baby goats.

We moved back to Gustavia to rent a skooter and tour the island. Al stopped at the top of airport runway to try and capture a shot of a plane landing. As you stand at the top of the hill, planes swoop down steeply to land on the shortest runway in the world.

We wove our way up and down the island over some very narrow and crazy steep roads with treacherous turns while I kept my eyes closed and hung on for dear life. I'm not usually nervous on a motorcycle but those roads were too much for me and I was glad to get off.

St Bart's has about 100 mega yachts come in for new years.    This boat Le Grand Blu has a 50+foot power boat on the starboard side and a 50+ foot sloop on the port.  The stern looks like a Muskoka cottage, very impressive.
