An Act of Parliament established the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) in 1983 to set and conduct examinations and award certificates to successful candidates. Before this enactment, the Ministry of Education and Culture under the Examinations Section used to conduct the examinations.
Senior Examination Specialist
Responsibilities
- Plan and budget for the question paper development process
- Ensure that activities agreed upon in the Performance Management Development are done and their performance is assessed timely
- Update a record of setters and item writer in liaison with the Examinations Specialist
- Train Item Writer Setters and recommend for appointments
- Commission Item Writers according to the laid down time frames and procedures
- Ensure that 10 quality drafts are received for each paper in the assigned subjects annually
- Lead and coach the panel setters and proof readers to ensure achievement of set objectives
- Coordinate the development of practical examinations or materials and ensure that they are feasible in terms of specimens, apparatus and related requirements
- Participate in the development and revision of the examinations syllabi
- Provide expert content knowledge with regard to the test development and the science curriculum for Teacher Education
- Maintain a record of question paper banks at different stages of production
- Ensure timely submission of Camera ready question papers to the required standards
- Undertake the verification of continuous assessment marks in colleges of education
- Prepare relevant documents such as marking schemes, coordination scripts for use during marking
- Prepare the subject performance feedback reports and related reports
- Participate in the monitoring examinations and marking with the view of identifying emerging challenges and provide recommendations for improvement
- Participate in the grading, moderation and standard setting meetings
Qualifications
- School certificate or its equivalent with five credits or better including English Language and Mathematics
- Bachelors of science in Education (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/Biology)
- Minimum three years work experience in education at tertiary level
- One year work experience in test development or examinations administration
- Additional training in educational assessment will be added advantage
- Must be a member of a relevant professional body
Research Officer
Responsibilities
- Assist the Principal Research Officer with administrative duties
- Take and prepare minutes for departmental and other meetings
- Archive departmental reports and related documents
- Participate in the design of data collection instruments
- Assist with field data collection and ensure that all relevant materials are in place
- Coordinate the printing of instruments for data collection
- Input and capture data in the Data Base
- Conduct the cleaning of captured data
- Participate in pretest activities
- Maintain the databases for all research activity reports and statistics
- Assist with production of documents including reports, letters and other communications
- Make Logistical arrangements for meetings and other ECZ large gatherings
- Prepare budget for the events such as workshops
Qualifications
- School Certificate or its equivalent with five (5) Credits or better (including English)
- Diploma in Education or equivalent
- Bachelors Degree in Education will be an added advantage
- Three years work experience
