Dear Friends,

On Monday President Trump issued a new executive order banning individuals from six Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States, suspending the refugee program for four months and slashing the number of refugees who can be admitted in 2017.

This new order is a revision of the Muslim ban the White House issued last month, which was rejected by the courts and the public. It is the same hate and fear, just in new packaging.

Amnesty is fighting back and we need your support. Discriminatory executive orders that go against everything we stand for as Americans cannot be the new normal. Donate to support our efforts.

Here is why we need your help now.

Ultimately Congress must intervene to permanently block the ban. We are targeting Senators from six states who will most likely sway the results.

(1) The morning the ban was announced, we held a phone briefing with nearly 100 congressional staffers to share why we believe this new Executive Order is discriminatory and harmful.

(2) We are holding National Days of Action — when we generate thousands of calls and hundreds of visits to target Senate offices.

We must continue to influence public opinion.

(1) We are holding press conferences to help shape editorial board coverage nationally and in our advocacy target states.

(2) We are sending Amnesty members to planned protests in the streets and at airports demanding the ban be stopped.

(3) We are protecting the right to protest. Over fifteen U.S. states have introduced bills that undermine the right to peaceful protest. They appear intended to criminalize and harass people from communities that Trump and his supporters have threatened in an attempt to keep them silent.

This is truly a historic moment — one that will show Americans and the world who we are and what we stand for.

Please join us and stop this hateful and bigoted ban once and for all.

Sincerely,

Margaret Huang
