My dad use to say. "You don't need to know everything, just make sure you have friends that do." So over the last 10 years, I have been making friends with people who I believed are in the know. God has placed them in my path because, hey, she knew where I was going with this GCR/RV long before I did and she also knows I will need a lot of help when I get there.

As an example, I was staying in a very cool hostel in downtown Sacramento, I had just come back from a little walk around downtown and as it turned out, it was feed the homeless day, in the park, just a couple blocks from the hostel. The number of homeless mixed with maybe those who had homes just needing a meal completely blew me away. Several thousand were gathered, around several city blocks. I saw your homeless with shopping carts piled high, you're sitting in their car, everything they owned inside, homeless, you're homeless huddled in small groups, your homeless with children in their arms, your homeless helping homeless by serving the meal. So many ways to be homeless.

When I got back to the hostel I went into the game room in my bare feet and took a seat, to think about what I had just witnessed. A few minutes later a cleaning lady came into the room and started straightening things up. She turned to me and said "let me see the bottoms of your feet please," I raised my feet and she said "Yup their clean, I must be doing a good job keeping the floors clean." I laughed and asked how long she had been working there, she said "2 years, but this is just part time to keep the bills paid and food on my table, because my real job is helping the homeless." I smiled and thought, now here is someone who can help me understand how I can help the homeless, once this blessing comes. So I said "If you had unlimited resources to help the homeless here in Sacramento what would you do." She went on to tell me the pluses and minuses of all the existing organizations in the city now working on this problem and then she gave me a very clear picture of how she would combine all the pluses into one organization and make it work. Needless to say, I took her number and told her I would be calling her soon.

The next day I met a lady who was spending all her time shuttling around battered women, from the local abused women's shelters, because as she put it "I have been there and I know what they are going through and I have a pretty good idea of what they need." Another number in my phone.

I can tell you now, I have a very, very long list of people who know a whole lot more than I do about how to fix whats broken. Jobs, jobs, and more jobs. The real fun for me begins in the next few weeks when I get to call those numbers and tell those people, it's "go time." I will tell them to hire everybody they know, who can help them and then I will let them do what they do best already, help make the world a better place, only on a whole lot bigger stage.

Sure I have my own plans and dreams of how I think I can best work at fixing the broken system, I will get to those later. Right now I am believing something my dad use to say. "If you help enough other people get what they want in the end you will have everything you need." So for me it's easy I am looking for those I can help.

I believe it's time for all of us to open our eyes and see what God has placed in front of us. Lots and lots of really smart people, who know what's wrong with where we have been as a nation and have a good idea what they can do to help change it, if given the opportunity. Talk to the people you meet, ask them about thier ideas of how they would help and start taking numbers, because I believe you will be needing em, real soon.
