"We, the undersigned organizations and social movements, declare our rejection of the
arbitrary arrest of student and employee of the University of S?o Paulo Fabio Hideki
Harano detained for political demonstration held on June 23, 2014 on Avenida Paulista, in
S?o Paulo . We demand his immediate release because there is no evidence to support the
need for his arrest and reaffirm the constitutionally guaranteed right to all Brazilian
citizens the right to participate in peaceful demonstrations. ---- His arrest is an attack
on the State Government of S?o Paulo to all social movements. In the failure of the
Department of Public Safety to respond to new forms of protest, we chose the model of
"exemplary punishment" that befell Fabio Hideki, peaceful and hardworking student who
never hid his identity in actions and protests that participated. This procedure by the
authorities marks another step in the escalation of the criminalization of social
movements and popular in the state of S?o Paulo, posing a threat to individual and
collective rights of free expression.
Faced by such arbitrariness and injustice, for this demonstration of terror that takes us
to the darkest periods in the history of our country, we demand the immediate release of
Hideki and call upon the entire society to mobilize for justice, for freedom and humanity.
