For the month of June one year anniversary of the "Day of June" of 2013, which repealed
increases in rates in more than 100 cities in Brazil, we call along with other collectives
Free Pass Movement in Brazil a number of activities that this remetessem memory and the
pautasse RATE ZERO during the World Cup. The clear intention is to denounce the
perverse effects of this mega event for the poor and the working of the country. In the
city of Rio de Janeiro, the city Eduardo Paes removed under forced evictions, housing more
than the old governments of Carlos Lacerda (1962) and Pereira Passos (1903), both
considered record holders evictions and removals in the city's history. The ills of public
transport, we denounce both, intensified in this period.
The works for the installation of BRT, besides serving comojustificativa for removals,
were extremely profitable for entrepreneurs, who kept the few fleets (plan to withdraw
more than 500 bus service) and tariffs that prevent the free movement of the population.
The Single Ticket, sold as a supposed benefit to users, constitutes a way of sale and
build credit by paying in advance for tickets. Workers and workers spend significant
portion of their already limited income on transportation. The tariff increase enlarges
the problem when combined with an increase in rents, bills and the cost of living in this
"boom" of the "Brazil Cup". If nothing else, repressive and militaristic measures are
taking place in the city, with sharp features of political and social repression of the
population, as the human rights violations committed by the UPP, installed with the
purpose of curious "pacify" the slums. Because the state is the Rio de Janeiro, we call
this act during the World Cup in order to use their visibility to expose our main claim:
the RATE ZERO public transport.
We call upon the concentration at Candelaria at 17h and never changed the place of
concentration. Militants from MPL -Rio realized at the time of the act that individuals
had told the internet, social networks, that notice had been transferred to Copacabana,
where occurred the "Fifa fan fest". Sorry it happened, but this was a misunderstanding.
Even with the prediction of stronger repression during the World Cup, it was higher than
expected. The concentration
of the act had a huge police presence, which prevented its realization. Until the track
"NO GO HAVE RATE "was forcibly closed under threat of police who said" Or keep or we
arrest everyone. " At that moment it became impractical to proceed with the demonstration,
which was accompanied by magazines, threats and arrests, with the use of masks or simply
makeup tins and drumming in artistic performances (!) Claim. This made convoc?ssemos
people to withdraw from there to make a quick meeting at Uruguayana. In this, it was
decided that people would move to Copacabana, where some said there is a small protest and
where we would have more visibility, since the police were taking advantage of emptying
the city center to act more aggressively and arbitrary manner.
When we tried to follow Copacabana, were accompanied by the PM, who insisted on hostility.
The entrances to metro stations were closed as the protesters approached. When we decided
to follow the bus, thinking that a march would be risky to walk according to the
repressive actions of the PM, also were denied boarding, since whenever we stopped at a
bus stop the vehicle the PM tried to close the street. People walked collected and
followed up Cinel?ndia. There, protesters again tried to catch a bus. While we strive for
zero tariff, overt police presence inhibited in any action for occupancy of the bus. Many
people pay their tickets before boarding when the police commander ordered the driver to
open the back door. Many protesters exercised their right and climbed promoting zero
tariff. But the PM decided to close the doors of the bus and told not to follow the trip,
saying it would take all trapped driver. This started a conflict because the protesters
claimed down while outside demanded the release of fellow. The balance were 7 prisoners
for questioning and some prosecuted for contempt of authority. One of them had his hand
broken when hit by military police with batons.
We understand that what happened with the Act on June 17, 2014 was the middle of a process
of political persecution and criminalization of social movements. There have been many
attacks on the country struggles. Surveys and persecutory actions have happened in order
to embarrass or prevent the demonstrations. In S?o Paulo, the PM blamed entirely MPL -SP
by cases of depredation occurred during the act "NO GO HAVE RATE "from there, only to
have made the call and sent a letter to the secretary of public safety contends that there
was no police escort because the protesters guarantee its own security. However, in events
organized by the city of S?o Paulo there have been deaths. Why the government and
companies involved were not punished and held accountable? This is a clear political
maneuver to criminalize comrades. In Goi?nia, with "OPERATION 2.80" filed by DRACO
(Precinct Suppression of Organized Crime), members of the "Struggle Front Goiania", which
is part of the Collective Zero Tariff Goi?nia (federated to MPL ), were summoned,
verbally abused, interrogated and detained in their homes by the morning, and having their
computers confiscated property for investigative purposes. Here in Rio, there is the case
of Rafael Viera, homeless and car washer, who was arrested during the demonstration of
June 20, 2013 and convicted of possessing a bottle of Pine Sol, alleged to be an explosive
justice.
We will not be silent before we suffer. What happened to us was a clear attempt to
intimidate not to paut?ssemos the RATE ZERO public transport in Rio de Janeiro.
Reinforced here our array of social movement by public transport and unification with
everyone who wants to fight for this agenda. Because our commitment is to a society free
of all turnstiles and all workers who are penalized by the existence of tariffs and this
model of public transport returned to business profit. Since February 2014 we had our
journey of struggles against the increase in bus fares, interrupted by tragedy promoted by
the Military Police. This decided sabotage any cost direct action "catracasso", which was
having a growing popular support when played bombs and attacked the protesters and
passenger station in central Brazil. This triggered the conflict that caused the death by
trampling the peddler Taslan Aciolly and a rocket that hit the head cameraman Santiago
Andrade, where the trial of two young liable is today being used for purposes of terror on
the social struggles. These facts need to be remembered, as were followed by a strong
police and media persecution of social movements. Mainly promoted repression and silence
about the absurd increase in bus fare for 3 REAL , who was convicted of technicians TCM
(the County Court of Auditors), who claimed that the rate should REDUCE for ? 2.50.
Increases in train and subway passage occurred then after the then Governor S?rgio Cabral
has promised to freeze rates.
We know that the persecution and repression are not today. This has not been and will not
be enough to make us stop. We will be on the streets, neighborhoods, and slums where
necessary to strengthen and continue the struggle. We have not only the right to
demonstrate and organization on our side, but also a whole population suffering with this
model of public transportation. The action of the government and the police only reveals
the following: the "top" tremble in fear of popular unrest. What entrepreneurs, corporate
media and governments want is to prevent the growth of membership to social movements,
creating a climate of terror and turning militants into criminal suspects. The answer to
this is that we will continue the growing mobilization. So always summon everyone who
wants to fight for the right to come and go, the RATE ZERO and the right to the city.
While there turnstiles, we will be organizing ourselves and fighting.
Force among us, war tariffs! For a life without turnstiles!
