Social-liberal left is facing a large opposition movement. While much of the population
lives in poverty, power continues to invest billions to host the World Cup in order to
consolidate its status as the new great power. ---- Strong protest movement that embraces
Brazil debunks many misconceptions. Indeed, the image of a country boosted by economic
growth model of liberal democracy and the birthplace of football dedicating his new great
power status in the organization of the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016 is a
big hit. While power in the hands of the Workers Party (PT) can still count on significant
support in the poorest segments of the population thanks to social assistance that has
developed.
The fact remains that the inequalities are still crying when we know that the richest 10%
account for 48% of the country's wealth, the poorest 10% have access to only 0.7% This
manna, which 23% of the population receives less than two dollars a day and finally one
person in six is ??experiencing malnutrition. These extremes are similar with regard to
access to land, as nearly 50% of farms (less than 10 hectares) of land occupy 2.2%, while
2.2% of farms have 56.3 % of the land.
More games, less bread
The mass protests, riots and strikes that grow since June come sweeping shots and have the
merit to give a speech to the Brazilian people usually confiscated by the government,
institutional parties and their different relays, including the media. The wasteful
spending to achieve the complex and facilities for large sporting masses coming
crystallize more anger. The protestors also make the connection with the corruption that
is the second nature of the state and capital. The increase in transport prices marked the
first demonstrations in the streets of Sao Paulo, but especially the repression that has
inflamed the masses of the economic capital and major cities. She put on the street many
young people, but also many workers' revolt against the case of pensions and public
(including education and health) services and higher prices. The demonstrations also aim
activism increasingly violent (including homophobia) right and extreme right.
The state represses not only events but also attacked the activists working for years with
the emergence of popular struggles and mass against the order it represents. This is the
way to explain the search of the libertarian Atheneum Porto Alegre hosted by our comrades
of the Federa??o anarquista gaucho (FAG Anarkismo of members) by federal police on June 21.
If major sporting masses are targeted is because they symbolize all the political and
social embodied today Brazilian capitalism violence expulsions favelas located around the
sports complex, moving at fifty miles population evicted, useless projects laminent
welfare, public services, but also destruction of food crops and ecosystems.
