Requirements:
Applicants must be in possession of a National diploma or Bachelor’s degree with Plant Production, Agronomy and/or Plant Protection as a major subject(s) or a National diploma/degree in Food Technology and/or Food Science (you are required to furnish a credit certificate and/or statement of results). Knowledge of and experience in the field of quality and food safety management systems which encompass good agricultural practice/post-harvest treatment/Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)/handling of grains, vegetables, fruits, animal and processed products. Address meetings and gatherings with related industries. Good communication (verbal and written) skills. Computer skills in MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and the ability to work independently and effectively under pressure and supervision. Prepared to travel. A valid driver’s licence or must be obtained within a period of six months of appointment.
Duties:
The incumbent will be responsible to draft, develop, amend, administer and interpret as well as implement subordinate legislations related to grains, vegetables, fruits, animals and/or processed products as promulgated under the Agricultural Product Standards Act, 1990 (Act 119 of 1990). Communicate and advise stakeholders and the farming community with regards to the implementation and compliance with quality and food safety and standards pertaining to grain, vegetables, fruits, animal and/or processed products. Liaise Nationally and Internationally in order to develop norms and standards for grain, vegetables, animals and/or processed products that are informed and up to date.
