Requirements:
BA degree or equivalent diploma with History, Literature, Information Management or one of the Performing Arts as major subject. 3 years’ experience in and Archives or related institution with proven extensive knowledge of the performing Arts. Knowledge Archives Act and other legislation which impacts on Client Services. Training strategies, methods and best practices. Supervisory and management principles. Computer skills. Arrangement and Description. Reading Room. Data coding. Supply Services. Audio-visual and performing arts industry. Historical events and South African history. Basic repair of collections. Basic preservation rules for different collections. Climatic conditions of storage and vaults. Databases and Data coding / cataloguing of collections. Digitisation of collections. Reading and Understanding Afrikaans.

Duties:
Sorting, marking off, written acknowledgement, attending and storing of records received. Arrange and describe existing collections in accordance with the relevant Archival principles. Keeping a register of incoming and outgoing correspondence. Supervision of allocated strong rooms and vaults. Compilation of Strong room Registers. Compiling a list of the contents of each strong room. Sorting, boxing, marking and storing of a donation. Describing and indexing of information regarding donations in the collection. Assistance to Researchers using the Reading Room. Handling of Telephonic and written enquiries. Retrieval and Storage of Records Records/Publications. Reading Room Preparation. Respond to official and non-official enquiries. Receive and record new records and library publications. Proper registration of new donations. Sorting, arrangement description and storing of new and backlogged items. Stocktaking, numbering stamping indexing and data coding of new and backlogged items. Writing of thank you letters. Basic preservation measures regard collections. Data coding and digitisation of records.
