Requirements:
Appropriate Bachelor’s degree in the environmental management/sciences field or relevant equivalent qualification. Appropriate experience in the field of coastal or environmental management. Knowledge on National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act (Act No. 24 of 2008), Off-Road Vehicle Regulations, Sea Fishery Act (Act. No. 12 of 1988), White Paper for Sustainable Coastal Development in South Africa and other relevant environmental policies and legislation. Advanced computer literacy skills and relevant experience. Thorough Knowledge and understanding of coastal management processes and principles, Integrated Environmental Management and their application. Well-developed analytical, administrative, communication (both verbal and written), project management, conflict management, financial management, high proficiency in computer skills, Ability to work individually and in a team; Ability to work under pressure without supervision and multi-task, Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Duties:
Provide the policy advice in respect of EIA applications/reports (Basic assessment, scoping reports and appeals). Assist in the development of policies, guidelines and/or coastal management programmes where necessary for the effective management of the Integrated Coastal Management Act (Act. No 24 of 2008). Support interventions to promote environmentally sustainable developments through policy advice, inputs and comments on draft Integrated Coastal Management Bill, EIA applications and any other planning related proposals/reports. Provide the policy advice to the Minister and the Director-General on all enquiries and parliamentary questions related to the implementation of the Integrated Coastal Management Act (Act. No 24 of 2008). Provide leadership in planning and institutional support in terms of the Integrated Coastal Management Act, and National Environmental Management Act and its regulations, including Off-road vehicle regulations of 2001, as amended Oversee the development, amendment and implementation of coastal legislation Oversee Policy Analysis related to International and National Coastal management. Oversee the Directorate’s input into Coastal Environmental Impact Assessments .Implement, manage and promote institutional arrangements and support for coastal legislation, government bodies and coastal committees. Ensure cooperative governance and stakeholder management through relevant forums, working groups and committees. Manage the financial resources and ensure availability of adequate and skilled human capital for the Section (Planning and Institutional Support).
