Requirements:
An appropriate 3-year Bachelor’s degree / National Diploma in Environmental Science/Management, Geography, Town and Regional Planning, Development Studies, Landscape Architecture, Soil Sciences, or Natural Sciences. Relevant experience in the coordination, facilitation and implementation of international Conventions, Treaties and Protocols particularly the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and promotion of the sustainable use of natural resources. Knowledge and experience in the implementation of related sustainable natural resource management strategies and policies in and outside protected / conservation areas including land based livelihood programmes. Interpersonal skills, presentation skills, ability to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, planning and organizational skills and an ability to write and interpret technical reports. The applicant must have a valid driver’s license and be prepared to travel extensively.

Duties:
The successful candidate will perform the following tasks: Assist the Sub-directorate: Sustainable Land Management by providing support to the management of staff, allocated budget, projects, tasks and processes. Assist in the national implementation of the UNCCD and other relevant sections of international conventions, protocols and agreements. Provide technical support in the implementation of UNCCD COP / CRIC / CST decisions and resolutions and the coordination of the implementation of the South African National Action Programme (NAP) to combat Desertification Land Degradation and Drought. Oversee the implementation of the Drylands Fund. Provide support to the implementation of Greening Programme and Municipal Open space master planning exercise Provide support to relevant transformation programmes including CBNRM and People and Parks, etc. Conduct public awareness on issues pertaining to the sustainable use of natural resources and sustainable land management Provide specialist advice to senior line function managers and stakeholders outside the Public Service on the sustainable use of natural resources relating to terrestrial ecosystems and sustainable land management Stakeholder liaison and database management.
