Requirements:
A B Comm / Bachelor Degree plus a postgraduate degree in Economics / Econometrics with strong concentration in economic modelling and or an Honours Degree in Economics / Econometrics coupled with three (3) to five (5) years of modelling experience. Knowledge of Input-Output Analysis models. Knowledge of Social Accounting Matrix (SAM). Development of environmental analysis models & databases. The following will see as strong recommendations: Experience in quantitative techniques, economic modelling and simulations. Knowledge of government processes. Economics analysis of respective modes of transport. Transport Economics. Communication skills (written and verbal). Negotiation skills. Project management. Computer literacy.
Duties:
Undertake, develop, research and apply economic analysis tools in the context of the transport sector policy. Develop transport economics models and formulate benchmarking indicators for South Africa’s global competitiveness in the transport sector. Develop transport economic models and undertake the necessary research in setting up a comprehensive transport model focusing primarily on South Africa’s transport systems. Supervise investigations and give guidance on the latest economic modelling tools to enable the Department of Transport to keep abreast with the latest modelling techniques that are used globally. Liaise with research institutions. Undertake specific transport economics research, particularly in relation to that imperative of domestic’s growth and international growth activities. Collect, collate, analyse and evaluate transport data for investigations. Investigate and identify obstacles and suggest potential solutions through different modes to optimise transport’s role in the economy and drive the disaggregating agenda of transport data. Conduct research for preliminary questions responses, participate inter-division project teams and intergovernmental task teams relating to pertinent economic analysis issues. Manage and monitor project performance, give guidance and make adjustment as necessary
