Barack Obama ka bërë betimin gjatë ditës së sotme, me rastin e inagurimit të mandatit të tij të dytë presidencial. Në ceremoninë spektakolare të zhvilluar në Uashington, fillimisht ka qenë mbështetësja e flaktë e Obamës, Beyonce, e cila ka kënduar himnin kombëtar. Më pas kanë performuar edhe Kelly Clarkson dhe James Taylor.
Në praninë e të shoqes Michele dhe dy vajzave të tij, 11 dhe 14 vjeç, Obama ka mbajtur më pas një fjalim emocionues, duke u bërë thirrje amerikanëve që të qendrojnë të bashkuar për të siguruar prosperitetin e vendit. “Në duhet të veprojmë së bashku, si një popull dhe si një komb. Ne duhet t’i përgjigjemi thirrjes së historisë”, ka thënë Obama, duke iu referuar kundërshtive të ashpra të viteve të fundit mes republikanëve dhe demokratëve, që e kanë vënë në vështirësi vendin.
