Wood by wood, canvas by canvas, community residents are Jos? Nitro over the last few days,
building their homes and their history in a space that is the germ of Occupation
Contestado, consolidated in the early hours of Wednesday (7). ---- The name honors the
occupation of one hundred years of Constestado War, a conflict that occurred in the state
of Santa Catarina in the early 20th century and that, as in our struggle, questioned the
ownership of land and was a manifestation of popular discontent in the face of social
problems. ---- The action is retaliation in the coming hours and days and the Military
Police of Santa Catarina have stayed in place: before 4am this morning, the police came to
intimidate the occupants, but it was not enough to quit.
These workers of the city of San Jose, coming from so many places in Brazil, are starring
in a historical act before the disorganization of the homeless capital of Santa Catarina
in the past 20 years. Act that legitimizes the first step taken last Saturday, meeting
with the Movement for Reconstruction Homeless in Florian?polis on Saturday (3).
All these actions were unintentionally stimulated by a character who has no interest in
popular sovereignty and the quality of life of his people, the current mayor of San Jose,
Djalma Berger, supported by his brother and current mayor of Florian?polis, Dario Berger.
It's been almost a month and the only hope of punishing Djalma is in action Electoral
prosecutors. In summary, the MP filed a judicial investigation against electoral Djalma
Vando Berger for electoral crime. He is accused of abuse of political power and illegal
capture of suffrage on account of the promises made to the community settlement of Nitro
Jose in San Jose, on the eve of the elections, in early October.
Given the immobility and slowness in helping to solve a problem that the mayor himself has
created, the people decided to act and has the support of all who believe can be a new
city model, fairer with his people.
Now it becomes even more important solidarity with those families who are rebuilding their
lives. So please organize solidarity campaigns and collaborate with existing campaigns.
