White Dog and Steve got up early presumably to go to the Park. When they came home both jumped onto the bed to wish me a "Happy Birthday!" and to announce that a special breakfast awaited me: almond croissants (my favorite) and pain du chocolate (who can say "no" to rich sweet bread layered with dark chocolate?). White Dog climbed up next to me as I unscrolled Steve's word art and cried at its intensity of love. We all just held each other for a long time. While Steve was at class, we fielded phone calls and visits from well-wishers. After the three of us shopped for an Italian deli picnic we headed into the foothills and sky blue sky. We got home in time for a late afternoon nap all nestled on the bed worn out from fresh air and great food. Later, I brought a veal bone and some roasted chicken back for White Dog--pieces of the excellent restaurant birthday dinner with Di and Steve.
