Not your average analogue copying device?
P2P.net reports that Germany is levying a copyright tax on all Fujitsu and Siemens computers sold in the country. The 12 euro charge is the result of a case brought by the VG Wort copyright organisation and will be added on to the sale price of the machines. Germany has traditionally imposed a levy on analogue copying devices, such as blank video cassettes.
The IPKat suspects a case of double revenue clawback here. He bets that those who pay the computer levy will still be obliged to pay to make any use of copyright works facilitated by their computers.
