NORTH KOREA SIGNS UP FOR LISBON TREATY, BUT DOES ANYONE REALLY CARE?

The so-called Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, a.k.a. North Korea, has notified WIPO of its commitment to the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of Origin and their International Registration as of 4 January 2005. The IPKat notes that the unpalatable regime in the DPRK has not signed the Mine Ban Treaty and has walked out on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. How touching that it should wish to respect the rights of producers of Champagne and Parma ham when their own people are starving.
