Man In The Moon Bubble Bar

Man In The Moon is a dream reimagined and repackaged as a bubble bar - a product that would easily become a best seller if released all year round. In fact, it feels almost criminal to confine this beauty to the restraints of a single season, and I hope that Lush recognise the potential this has as a regular item.

If there is one product that is long overdue in the Lush catalogue, it's a Calacas-scented bubble bar. If nothing else, the popularity of The Enchanter, Monsters' Ball and Calavera will tell you that Lush fans love ourselves a bit of lime, and this is a much-welcome member of the scent family for sure.

Having said that, I have had discussions in the past about Lush releasing a bubble bar with this fragrance, and have always reached the conclusion that the scent wouldn't work in this format. I'm happy to announce that I am ready to eat my words; in fact, I would say that this fragrance might even work better as a bubble bar than a bath bomb.

Containing lime, olibanum and neroli oils, Man In The Moon is a bright, zesty product that will bring some much-needed sunshine into your life, and into your bath tub. Much like every other product in this fragrance, this bubble bar is sweet, fruity and citrusy - smelling like a combination of lime fruit pastilles and edible jelly.

While it has been proven that citrus smells can dampen and lose their power after a certain amount of time (when presented in any format), you will be pleased to know that this bubble bar makes a solid impression from the get-go, and continues to offer strong bursts of juicy lime goodness throughout the entire experience. In hindsight, I think it is the inclusion of both the olibanum and neroli oils that helps to ground the overall aroma of this bubble bar - thus why it is able to be both strong and robust while also offering an experience that is equally both light and crisp.

Although the initial price tag may put some people off from giving this one a go, and I won't deny that I think it is a little overpriced for what it is, the bubble bar is not only huge, but powerful enough to see you through at least two different baths if you so choose. Those of you who like to indulge heavily may wish to use the whole product (as I did). However, it can also be used across multiple baths and still smell heavenly and robust.

Its consistency is a little different to most of Lush's other bath bombs, as it appears to be slightly soft and a little squidgy when you try to break a piece off. For this reason, I would recommend that you use a knife to cut it into chunks and ensure that the remaining piece is kept somewhere cool and dry between uses.

However much you choose to use, Man In The Moon creates a stunning lime-green shade in the tub and is super-soft on the skin as well. The zesty lime fragrance lingered in my bathroom for hours after I had finished, and the smell radiated from my skin for a short while after I had towelled myself down as well.  It would have been wonderful if the aroma had been a little stronger on my skin, so I could indulge in the scent throughout the day. However, my Calacas Body Lotion and Liquid Perfume were able to offer me that experience anyway.

Ultimately, I believe that this is one of the greatest Christmas Bubble Bars that Lush have released so far - it even offers Peeping Santa a little friendly competition. Despite the price, I will be buying a number of these to see me through the winter months and I only hope that it makes an appearance again, at some point in the near future.

Bewitched Bubble Bar

There is nothing more bewitching than a bubble bar in the shape of an animal  - especially one molded to look like the nation's favourite furry companion. While not everyone is lucky enough to be able to share their lives with a real-life good luck charm, an endearing bubble bar such as this one is a good replacement. Kind of.

Bewitched Bubble Bar hits every mark before it's even started. While cats are not my favourite creature on the planet, they are definitely one of, and this brand new Halloween creation reminds me very much of my own two furries. The piercing eyes replicate perfectly how my two boys look at me when they realise it's time to be fed and mama just isn't moving fast enough for their liking.

As I have been fairly absent in the community for a while, I had no idea what any of the new products smelt like, and I was both surprised and excited on discovering that this alluring bubble bar has the same aroma as the now-discontinued Blackberry Bath Bomb, and the very popular Sultana Of Soap

While not a fragrance I rave about, I fall in love with the scent a little more, each and every time I come into contact with it. There is something so rich and so succulent about the combination of bergamot and olibanum, and the smell is not only a perfect replica of the bath bomb, but it also compliments the colour and design of this seasonal special perfectly as well.

Bewitched Bubble Bar is both rich and sweet. The olibanum oil creates a thick, resinous blanket of smell, which gives this product a very sultry feel about it. While I wouldn't say this smells at all like it's 'burnt', there is something that reminds me of sugar that has caught slightly in a hot pan. The inclusion of the bergamot helps to add a warming layer of fruitiness that elevates the base notes and gives this fragrance an all-rounded comforting smell.

Easy to crumble, this seasonal release can be used across multiple baths, despite the fact that it is a little on the smaller side than I had originally envisaged. It's potency means that the fragrance will remain prominent in your bath until the end, and just Blackberry, this bubble bar will leave a lasting impression on your skin.

What is gorgeous about Bewitched is that once you have allowed the water to stimulate the bubbles, the water turns a deep shade of black, and silver lustre ebbs underneath the surface. Furthemore, this is one of the most moisturising bubble bars I have come across in a while. You skin will reap the benefits of using one of these in your bath.

This is perhaps the product I will buy the most of this year, as not only does my skin feel incredibly replenished after bathing with one, but the fragrance is the perfect blanket to cocoon you in during the colder months of the year. I may not be able to afford or look after a million cats, but having a handful of these will work out far cheaper in the long run.

Quantitative Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Cream of Tartar, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl Betaine, Cornflour, Perfume, Bergamot Oil, Olibanum Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, *Limonene, *Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl, Methylpropional, Tin Oxide, Colour 77266, Colour 77491, Colour 47005.

Calacas Body Lotion

It's hardly surprising that Calacas came out on top in the voting pole for smells that consumers want to see in more formats. Despite the multiple bath bombs, shower gels and jellies, perfumes and soaps that share this scent, the simple fruity fragrance is one of Lush's most popular inventions, and fans will clamber to get their hands on absolutely anything with the same smell.

While I cannot deny that it is one of my all-time favourites as well, there is a small part of me that wishes a lesser prominent product had won - simply because the Calacas range is already highly saturated, and it would have been nice to experience something a little different instead. Having said that, I cannot deny that my small tub of Calacas Body Lotion has been well and truly dipped into over the last couple of days, and to say it is any less than what I was hoping for, would be a rather unfair statement.

Unlike the Brightside Body Lotion, I was actually initially disappointed when I experienced my first sniff of this limited edition. While it is Calacas through and through from the get-go, I found that this lotion is definitely not as spritely, nor as fruity as the shower gel or jelly that I know and love.

Don't get me wrong: the fresh, citrusy lime smell that we all know and love is definitely there, and fans of Calacas will be able to appreciate their favourite scent in this format. However, there is something slightly reserved about the fragrance in the tub. I almost feel as if the base ingredients stop the smell from being as elevated as it is in other formats; as if there's a cap on the scent and it's not quiet as long-lasting as it's known to be in other products.

Much like The Brightside, this lotion is rather thick to apply, and you really need to massage it into the skin well to ensure that you're not left with any residue on the surface afterwards. Once applied to the body, you will then need to give the product a good ten to fifteen minutes to be absorbed, as the lotion tends to leave a mild stickiness on the surface for a short while.

What is great about Calacas Body Lotion is that it's really effective at helping to improve the condition of your skin in a very short space of time. Immediately after applying this, my skin looked so much more radiant, and it also felt so incredibly nourished and replenished. Given the nature of the consistency, I felt as if the various oils really got to work at absorbing themselves, and I was left with firmer, plumper skin to see me through the day.

On the other hand, just like the other body lotions featured in this release, I do feel as if this lotion may be a little too heavy to use during those scorching-hot, summer days. After applying this mid-morning, I could feel how heavy the lotion felt whilst on my body, and when the sun began to break me out in a little sweat, I did feel uncomfortable with the lotion so prominent on my skin.

Furthermore, I'm going to be honest and say that I was a little disappointed with how the smell of the lotion developed on my skin over time. Already slightly less wholesome than it is in shower gel and jelly format, I found that the fragrance wasn't as powerful as I was expecting, and the scent all but dissipated within the first twenty minutes of application.

Don't get me wrong: the smell of this lotion is super zesty and fans of Calacas will no doubt love smearing themselves with their favourite lime-dominated aroma. However, given how fickle citrusy smells can be in certain formats, I just feel as if this body lotion isn't as exciting as I was expecting it to be. Perhaps I'm being a little harsh, because there is nothing particularly bad about this body lotion at all. Having said that, I just feel as if the fragrance could have been a little bit more robust, but perhaps that's the nature of working with such a simplistic smell to begin with.

Given the lightness of the aroma, you would expect this lotion to be more in line with Karma Kream, consistency wise. For this reason, it makes a welcome change that the lotion is far thicker than I as expecting it to be. Despite a few negative points, this is a really lovely lotion and one I will continue to use throughout the hotter months of the year. Calacas fans will no doubt really appreciate this new addition to the family,

Quantitative Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Almond Oil, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Glycerine, Stearic Acid, Triethanolamine, Lime Oil, Olibanum Resinoid, Neroli Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Alpha-Isomethyl, Ionone Benzyl Salicylate, *Citral, *Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellal, *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume, Methylparaben Propylparaben.

Tea And Sympathy Bath Bomb

For someone who considers them self to be fairly intelligent, I don't know why I didn't think about the ingenious concept of bathing alongside a tea bag or two. Known for being incredibly detoxifying and softening on the skin, it's the perfect bathing companion, and one that will be making a reappearance alongside many of the cocktails that I concoct in the future.

Tea And Sympathy Bath Bomb is easily one of the most boring ballistics that Lush have ever produced. However, it doesn't need to be particularly attractive when the name is enough to warrant a good many sales. Add in the unique feature of including a tea bag at its core, and you've already appealed to the British mentality - enough to sell a batch or two without too much of a problem.

What immediately struck my about this bath bomb, when it arrived, was that it smelt very different to what I had envisaged. Described as being 'like white and green tea', I was expecting something very two-dimensional and perhaps a little bitter. However, what I found was that this bath bomb was far sweeter and prettier than I had initially given it credit for.

Containing calamine powder and chamomile oil as the two key components, I expected the bath bomb to be very overpowering and medicinal smelling. Instead I found Tea And Sympathy had all of the refreshing, herbal properties of both ingredients, but with a wonderful musky layer alongside this. The olibanum oil really does work its magic at sweetening the chamomile and offering an almost resinous quality to the bath bomb.

While the clary sage is one of the last ingredients, I could really appreciate the prevalent herbal thread that is featured because of this. Despite the fact that every component works in harmony with each other, you can definitely make out each ingredient individually as well, which makes this one of the prettiest smells that I have experienced from Lush in a while.

Having said this, the bath bomb still wouldn't win any awards in the tub. Upon contact with the water, Tea And Sympathy begins to froth and fizz, and it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes for the product to dissolve completely. While puddles of white froth and bubbles pattern the surface, these disappear very quickly, and you are left with a very boring-looking bath. This bath bomb does not colour the water at all, and if it wasn't for the lovely smell radiating off of the water, and the single tea bag floating across the water, you wouldn't really be able to tell that you've used a product in there at all.

In it's defence, the bath bomb is rather moisturising and softening, without being at all greasy. The inclusion of the tea bag definitely helps to purify and detoxify your skin during bathing, and you'll find that your pores will feel much clearer afterwards.

Having said that, I found that the fragrance faded during my experience, and after using a couple of stronger products, I was no longer able to detect the smell at all. Furthermore, the aroma didn't permeate my skin enough to leave any sort of impression afterwards either.

Overall, this bath bomb is definitely one you have to try, but perhaps not one you need to rush out and buy. Although its not one that I need to have at all times in my life, I would definitely say that adding a couple of colours to Tea And Sympathy would make it far more appealing, and one that I would be far more inclined to buy.

Quantitative Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Soya Milk Powder, Calamine Powder, Perfume, Chamomile Blue Oil, Olibanum Oil, Clary Sage Oil, Water (Aqua), Chamomile Tea Bag, *Limonene, *Linalool, Colour 42090, Colour 19140.

Sultana Of Skin Body Conditioner

While I have not been vocal about this, one of the products I have been most hoping to make an appearance in the Lush Kitchen, is Sultana Body Lotion. Having been aware of its existence since I first began collecting Lush products, this is one of those elusive items that I just know I will love and cherish, if I was ever lucky enough to secure myself a tub. For this reason, I was beyond ecstatic when I discovered that Lush were going to be bringing out a body conditioner in the same fragrance, a few weeks ago.

Sharing its scent with both the soap of the same name, and the Blackberry Bath Bomb, Sultana Of Skin Body Conditioner is one of those fragrances that tends to be thwarted by newer releases. Yet it is one I find myself going back to time and time again. Over the last few years, I have come to recognise the beauty of its rich and very unique fragrance,  and the smell of this definitely lends itself well to this format.

Much like the aforementioned products, the main note featured in this limited edition conditioner is olibanum. For those unfamiliar with this component, you might be interested to know that this ingredient also goes by the name of frankincense. Both of these oils are known for being very aromatic when it comes to the smell they offer in cosmetics, and this body conditioner is no different.

Sporting what I described as being a very sultry aroma, olibanum offers up a rich and very resinous note in this format - like the sap of a tree combined with a very subtle, sweet, undertone of smokiness. Combined with the cocoa and shea butter, and the bergamot oil, the sultry components of the olibanum are definitely complimented well with these ingredients, and the overall smell is very suited to this format.

Lush describe the scent of this as like 'evoking the joy of freshly laundered sheets and the scent of sweet summer rain' However, I find it far more soothing and comforting than this, and would relate it to the comforting feeling of sitting in front of a hot fire whilst enjoying a mug of freshly made malt'. It's more of a cloying fragrance than a fresh one, so I associate it more with a warm blanket than a thin sheet.

As with most of Lush's products, this one is incredibly versatile, and while the £29.95 price tag may seem a little daunting to those unsure of such a big commitment, it is definitely worth the investment. First and foremost, you can use it as Lush intended - as a body conditioner.

After using a gel, jelly or soap to clean yourself with, step out of the flow of the water and apply the product across your skin, as you would a body lotion. It wont lather up, and may disappear really quickly, but this is because it is designed to permeate the skin, not clean it.

The heat from the shower will have opened up your pores and made your skin more susceptible to the butters and oils featured in the ingredients list. So once applied, you can either step back under the flow of the water to rinse your body down, or exit the shower immediately and pat yourself down lightly. All you need to do then, is allow Sultana Of Skin time to work its magic and condition your skin, and for you to reap the benefits.

Unlike a body lotion, a conditioner creates a barrier of moisture around your skin, which may feel slightly greasy to begin with, and might prevent you from being able to apply your clothes until you've given it time to absorb into the skin. However, I can assure you that this will lessen within the first fifteen to twenty minutes after application, and you'll feel much better for it afterwards.

With this particular body conditioner, I found that an amount equal to that of a level dessertspoon was enough to coat both of my legs, so you really don't need to use that much each time to get the desired results. Please also be aware that you wont necessarily be able to see the product when you're massaging it across an area of skin as it does tend to absorb really quickly. There is also the fact that the lotion is quite thin in consistency - far thinner and less heavy than other Lush body conditioners, so a little amount will go a long way. However, this does not mean that you should apply any extra and waste the product - the results after you rinse yourself down will speak for themselves.

Secondly, Sultana Of Skin Body Conditioner works as an excellent shaving foam. Simply apply a small amount across your legs and shave your legs as usual. You'll be left with super-soft skin, and one of the closest shaves you have ever experienced. Finally, you could also use this as a body lotion, as there doesn't appear to be anything featured that could damage or irritate your skin if left on for long periods of time. The only issue I have with this latter method is that it may leave your body feeling rather greasy, so may only work as an intense moisturiser for those who have incredibly dry skin.

With this particular body conditioner, I found that is worked similarly to Lemony Flutter in the fact that it was easy to apply and worked really well at moisturising my skin, but it also appeared quite thin at the same time, so I wasn't left feeling overly greasy afterwards. Furthermore, I found that it worked equally as well as any other leading shaving foam that I have tried, and my legs stayed smooth for days afterwards.

Having said that, I was a little disappointed to find that while the fragrance of this did smell almost identical to the soap and the bath bomb, although I would say that this was slightly less rich and smoky than those two, the scent of this product wasn't as strong as I was hoping it would be. I had to strain my nose in the bath to really make out the smell of this conditioner, and once I had towelled myself down, I found that any other products I had been using alongside Sultana, seemed to make a bigger impression on my skin afterwards.

Despite this, I cannot fault the product aside from its lack of smell, and I think perhaps the strength of its aroma is probably of great appeal to those wanting something a little lighter and gentler on their skin. Maybe the fact that this scent family are sensual and not particularly overpowering, is why it has remained so popular over the years, and why both the soap and bath bomb are still huge sellers in the regular range. Fans of Sultana will probably thoroughly enjoy this, and I will continue to indulge my legs with this beauty once a week, until a body lotion, shower gel or perfume arrives to satisfy my olibanum cravings even further.

Quantitative Ingredients: Water, Organic Jojoba Oil, Glycerine, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Fair Trade Shea Butter, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Triethanolamine, Olibanum Oil, Bergamot Oil, *Limonene, *Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hexyl Cinnamal, Perfume.

Avocado Co-wash

Previous experience with Lush's solid conditioners left me feeling rather apprehensive about using this product to begin with. Despite the fact that it smells incredible and contains my favourite all-time ingredient, the avocado, I was unsure whether or not this product would be worth the price tag or indeed the hassle.

Avocado Co-wash Solid Conditioner was one of the first products I gravitated towards on my initial visit to the Oxford Street store. Modelled to look like a large wheel of Edam cheese, this pale green exclusive has a thin layer of red wax decorating its shell, which has been used to lock in the moisture of the fresh ingredients and prevent the conditioner from drying out over time. Much like the cheese, this solid hair product is also soft and slightly elasticated to touch - no doubt due to all of the amazing ingredients that go into making this bar.

Containing cupuacu butter, cocoa butter and fresh avocado, this shampoo/conditioner combo is rich in natural oils and has been designed to cleanse, soften and deeply moisturise your locks from root to tip. This combination of butters and oils have been carefully selected to offer you a very effective conditioner - one that has been designed to lock in your hair's natural moisture and add to it, without stripping your hair of the oils that it needs to remain soft and radiant.

Cupuacu butter is a natural emollient - meaning its the ingredient that penetrates the locks and helps to leave them looking and feeling silky-soft; olive oil works on strengthening your hair and gently treating the scalp at the same time. Aside from tasting incredible, avocado is rich in natural oils and helps to nourish and hydrate your hair and give it a gorgeous healthy shine.
Aside from it's conditioning properties, this bar is easily the best smelling haircare product that Lush have ever released. Despite the inclusion of rosemary, olibanum and bergamot, Avocado Co-Wash smells exactly like lime cheesecake - a sweet, creamy, citrus affair unlike anything that Lush have ever released before.

This incredible aroma is pungent enough that it remains on your hair for the entire day, yet light enough that it's not overpowering or unbearable for the wearer. I couldn't believe just how many compliments I received from random strangers and work colleagues after using this in the morning. The smell of this makes it the perfect summer conditioner: it'll not only leave you with beautiful locks, but will help to perk you up at the same time.

To use this product, I found it easier to use a combination of methods to transfer a lather onto the hair. To begin with, I cupped a small amount of water in-between my hands and then massaged the bar between my fingers before applying the small amount of lather to my hair. Once the bar was wet enough, I then found it easier to rub it directly onto my head - using a circular motion to stimulate the cream and regularly adding water to stop it being too harsh on my locks.

What I found was that I had to use my judgement on when to stop applying the product because it's a conditioner that doesn't initially make its presence known on the hair. In fact, my hair still felt quite rough even after I had washed the product off under the shower. It wasn't until I had towelled dried my hair and it was drying naturally that I began to notice how soft and shiny it had become.
Once fully dry, my hair looked and felt so amazing - I couldn't believe the transformation. My damaged ends didn't seem to be as depleted of moisture as they had been before, my hair felt fuller but much more manageable and my locks had a wonderful natural shine to it that brought out my natural highlights without weakening the colour of my hair dye.

My only issue with Avocado Co-wash is that it's rather expensive - coming in at £9.95 for a 100g block. After using it a few times, I noticed that the block  shrunk a lot quicker than any of Lush's other solid hair care products and I can see this piece only lasting me a month with regular use.

For this reason, I think that this conditioner would be perfect for those who dye their hair regularly and lose a lot of moisture whenever they do so. A few weeks of this every so often, just to replenish the hair of its natural oils, would be a perfect remedy. However, as a regular conditioner, I'm not quite sure if I can justify the price tag.

Having said this, the product itself is flawless when it comes to productivity, smell and design. It's the first and only solid conditioner from Lush that has worked for me so far and one I will definitely buy again. I would highly recommend that you try this out for yourself, and coupled with Odango Solid Shampoo, my hair is shaping up to be in perfect condition for the warmer months ahead.

Quantitative Ingredients: Rosemary Infusion, Cupuacu Butter (Theobroma grandiflorum), Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Fresh Avocado, Sodium Laurate Sulfate, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Perfume, Bergamot Oil (Citrus Aurantium bergamia), Litsea Oubeba Oil,  Olibanum Oil (Boswellia carterii), Glycerine, Organic Extra Virgin Oil (Olea europaea), SSD, Cider Vinegar, Guar Gum (Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride), Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), Amyl Cinnamal, Cinnamal, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Limonene, Linalool, Red Wax (Specerit Red).
