Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar

As far as ideas go, this new concept is definitely very sweet and quirky, but I’d definitely say it’s more suited as a seasonal gift as opposed to a staple item in your collection. Only time will tell whether or not these jars will leave a lasting impression on Lush fans, although I can imagine this is not the last we will see of them...

Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar is one of two limited edition 'naked boxes' to make themselves known this Christmas. While brand new to the seasonal range, neither of them offer new scents - with this one, not surprisingly, sharing its scent with the popular Snow Fairy Range.

With an astonishing number of new products released in the scent this year, Snow Fairy fans are being spoiled rotten with their sweet, musky seasonal favourite. While this jar is reminiscent of the numerous products in this fragrance, I really liked the fact that this one was a little more powdery and a little less sickly-sweet than the shower gel. Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar is probably closer to Candy Fluff and the Liquid Perfume than anything: it’s a little more reserved and thus more exquisite because of this.

Contain an amalgamation of different butters and oils, the sparkle jars firstly work as massage bars. Simply massage them across your body and the heat will gently melt a thin layer away to moisturise and nourish your skin. I found that this one was a little stubborn to use at first, and I would recommend that you use it immediately after a shower or bath, as the heat will help the jar to be a little less stubborn when releasing those oils. If used when you’re cold, you could find that the product will leave sticky streaks across your skin, and you may need to rinse yourself and start again.  

As well as a massage bar, this product contains a filling of dusting powder - which should be used after you’ve applied the oils, to soften your skin further and leave a layer of sparkle to your skin. Although my picture shows that I severed the lid off to access the powder, you are supposed to pierce the two holes in the top and then sprinkle it into your skin. 

If using Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar, you need to be aware of two important things. Firstly, the massage bar is technically hollow inside, so you cannot apply as much pressure as you might normally do with a regular massage bar. In addtion, you may want to keep your eye on how much powder you have left inside (the more you use the jar), as if the outer layer thins too much after, you could end up with a messy spillage.

Secondly, the dusting power will leave a faint pink ‘glow’ across the areas of skin that you apply it to, and there will be a shimmer of silver lustre as well. For this reason, I would think carefully about when and how you’re using the sparkle jar, as this probably wouldn’t be very appropriate  to use all of the time. Having said that, I’m sure that most people who choose to use this, will probably have made me peace with both of these ideas beforehand.

While the concept was adorable and definitely something I would add to a small gift hamper or stocking, I don’t think this is a product that I would use regularly. Although always one for a Sparkle-fest, I am not overly bowled over by the Snow Fairy scent anymore, and I do had my limits when it comes to how much lustre I want to coat my skin in.

Another aspect that will prevent me from buying another is that I don’t find my skin particularly benefits from the butters and oils, anywhere near to the same standard as a regular massage bar. This is definitely more about the novelty than the nourishment of the skin - something I need to ensure does happen during the colder months.

Ultimately, I love that Lush are trying out new ideas, and this will prove really popular throughout the seasonal months. Snow Fairy fans will appreciate a new product to try their hands at, and handfuls of these will find themselves as gifts for certain. However, I will continue to use my Sparkle Jar every now and then, but I don’t have any interest in buying another one before they disappear.

Princess Dusting Powder

I don't really know what it is about dusting powders that gets me excited, but when I discovered that Lush had four new ones available at the Oxford Street store, I couldn't wait to bag them all and give them each a big sniff. While it's not a product that I use regularly in the winter, I find that I crave them during the warmer weather; where they become an essential handbag filler for all of those times when I find myself a little sweaty and in need of a freshen up. 

Princess Dusting Powder was actually the one that I was least excited about - not because I dislike the smell of Princess Cottongrass Perfume, which shares the same scent, but because it's not the sort of fragrance that I get particularly excited about. While I enjoy floral smells, they certainly wouldn't be the scent I would gravitate towards if I was given a choice. 

Having said that, I found that I really enjoyed this one because not only did the fragrance last for a good few hours on my skin and worked well with the perfume to maintain the scent all day, but also because I found that it gave a slightly different experience than the liquid perfume offered. 

Scanning the ingredients list, it reads very much like the liquid perfume, with neroli, pine, nettle and violet leaf being the key components. Yet what sets this dusting powder apart from the other products, is that it contains calamine powder as one of the key elements as well. This makes Princess distinctively different from its siblings and may even disappoint those who wanted a straight-up replica of the aroma. 

In the bottle, the calamine powder gives off the strongest impression - a fresh, green and almost clinical aroma that is complimented by an element of pine that sits comfortably alongside this. As your nose becomes more accustomed to the smell, you can detect a thin but rather defined thread of violet as well, which pads out the scent and gives it that overall floral element. While the neroli oil is not obvious, it's definitely there to give the product a very subtle sweetness that rounds off the other ingredients nicely. 

Once on the skin, the smells doesn't seem as potent, and disperses into the air leaving behind a gentle, sweet floral scent to enjoy. While Princess does lose most of its fragrance very quickly once it's been applied, there is still a subtle aroma that lingers on the skin for a good couple of hours. 

So what is a dusting powder? According to Lush, it is a product of many talents - one that can be used on both the skin or the hair, depending on your preference. Its main purpose is to be applied after a bath or shower, when your skin is clean but dry. Simply sprinkle some into the palm of your hand and massage into your skin. The ingredients absorb the excess oils on your body and help to soften the skin, giving it a light, sensual fragrance. These dusting powders also work at removing excess sweat so can be carried around and used in the warmer weather. 

Princess, just like all of Lush's other dusting powders, can also be used as a dry shampoo. All you need to do is sprinkle the product into your hands and work throughout your hair to remove unwanted grease. This will tie you over until you can wash your hair thoroughly and works at removing and reducing the appearance of oily hair. I tried this out on a few occasions (although I tend to wash my hair daily) and found that it did make my hair feel softer and look good enough to wear out that day. However, I can't comment on whether this would work with severely oily hair as mine sides more on the drier side. 

What is great about this particular dusting power is that it's packed full of kaolin, which works at softening and healing damaged skin. Therefore it can be applied alongside or after a body lotion and you don't have to worry about it drying out your body. Furthermore, the inclusion of calamine powder means that this product works well at soothing irritated and sensitive skin types - meaning that those who find lotions too heavy or need something that won't clog up their pores, will be able to use this as an alternative. 

For £9.95, this is the most expensive out of the current four available at the Oxford Street store, which may initially put people off trying it out. However, I found solace in applying this before I left to catch the bus home from work, where it gave me that extra burst of fragrance to tied me over until I was able to shower. Although the scent wasn't my favourite, it did the trick at leaving me feeling smooth, clean, dry and smelling rather lovely to boot. A lovely addition to the Lush family.

Silky Underwear is the first dusting powder that Lush ever brought out and is still, to this day, one of their best selling products. Described as a luxuriously sophisticated powder, this product is designed to soften the skin and freshen up sweaty bodies everywhere.

So what is a dusting powder? According to Lush, it is a product of many talents. It's main purpose is to be applied after a bath or shower, when your skin is clean but dry. Simply sprinkle some into the palm of your hand and massage into your skin. The ingredients absorb the excess oils on your body and help to soften the skin, giving it a light, sensual fragrance.

However, like many other fans, I tend to use this throughout the day - applying the delicate powder when I'm feeling a little hot and sticky and need something to absorb the dampness. This, as with every other dusting powder, works wonders at making you feel clean, dry and silky smooth. The gentle fragrance is enough to leave you smelling beautiful without masking any perfume you may be wearing at the time. 

This particular powder features cocoa butter as one of it's main ingredients, which means that Silky Underwear is far silkier than any of Lush's other powders. The butter melts when in contact with your skin, helping to moisturise it and leave it feeling velvety-smooth. Don't worry though - the cocoa butter is distributed into tiny, sand-like pieces so you won't be left with greasy skin. It is this key ingredient that makes it far softer than the other dusting powders and I did notice the difference it made on the skin. 

Sharing it's scent with the likes of Alkmaar Soap and Turbo Bubble Bar, this dusting powder contains both jasmine absolute and vetivert oil. These two ingredients give it it's unique and very recognised aroma. I would describe it as being quite a musky floral scent with elements of what can only be described as vanilla. It's a rather gentle, sensual smell but one that's also rather luxurious and feminine to boot.  

Unfortunately, I don't think this dusting powder smells all that great when in the bottle and I can see a lot of people being put off by the 'ode de cornstarch' scent that you get when removing the lid. While I think the smell isn't all that unpleasant, it's not one that I'm overly excited about either. 

Priced at £4.25 for a 60g bottle, it works out at being the cheapest dusting powder that Lush offer. While it does sound like an expensive investment, you use very little product each time so can expect a bottle to last a good year, making it great value for money.  

Silky Underwear does leave your skin wonderfully smooth, and it works on skin of all ages. It's a beautiful powder to use before a night out or if you need that little extra pampering after a relaxing bath. The only let down for me is the fact that the fragrance is not my favourite one and for this reason I cannot see myself investing in this again.

Despite my German edition, I know that the words displayed across the front of this product read as 'Dusting Powder with iridescent & golden sparkles and a tantalisingly fluffy fragrance.' Lush describe it as possessing the scent of sweet shops and while I can see the comparison, I think this latter description sells it a little short. 

One of the things that initially attracted me to this dusting powder was that it shares it's scent with the popular Snow Fairy Shower Gel. Yet what I love about this powder is that the smell it gives off is far more mature and musky smelling than the aforementioned product. It still has the sugary-sweet candy floss element to it, but alongside this is a more sophisticated, powdery element.

Candy Fluff is a rather strong-scented dusting powder but not too overpowering that it becomes unpleasant. To use this product, simply shake into the palm of your hand and then rub into your skin. You can also apply it directly onto any areas you wish to, although I found that this can cause a lot of the powder to fall off and get onto your clothes and/or carpet. You only need a small amount to cover your whole body - I found a teaspoon amount was more than enough each time. 

The dusting powder sits beautifully on the body, immediately being absorbed into the skin so you don't have to worry about it rubbing off on any clothes you put on afterwards. The inclusion of cornflour makes this powder beautifully soft and I was very surprised to discover how instantly smooth it makes your skin. I couldn't stop stroking my arms after I had used this for the first time and I found that the condition of my skin stayed like this for the entirety of the day. 

If you're looking for an all-out girly experience, you can use this in conjunction with Snow Fairy Perfume or indeed the shower gel. This dusting powder keeps it smell for a long time after application so you can use it in place of a perfume. It's perfect for a night out as it will absorb some of your sweat whilst keeping you smelling and feeling clean.

While Candy Fluff claims to contain lots of sparkle, I've not noticed that much on my skin when I apply the stuff so you're not going to end up sparkling like a Twilight vampire. To prove my point; I tend to use this powder after I've washed my bedsheets - sprinkling a generous amount on after I've made my bed so I can enjoy the smell while I'm sleeping. Having done this for the last few months, I've yet to find myself covered in lustre after the experience.

It was originally priced at £6.10 back when it was still being sold so £6.95 is a pretty reasonable price. This may sound like quite a lot for what is glorified talcum powder. However, the 80g pot that I acquired has lasted me nearly a year so far and I've only used up about half a tub. 

Candy Fluff is now a firm favourite of mine - I've officially joined the club of obsessives. While it doesn't quite rank above Karma, it's a great treat after a relaxing bath and will be one I stock up on anytime Lush choose to offer it to the world.

The dusting powder sits beautifully on the body, immediately being absorbed into the skin so you don't have to worry about it rubbing off on any clothes you put on afterwards. The inclusion of cornflour makes this powder beautifully soft and I was very surprised to discover how instantly smooth it makes your skin. I couldn't stop stroking my arms after I had used this for the first time and I found that the condition of my skin stayed like this for the entirety of the day. 

If you're looking for an all-out girly experience, you can use this in conjunction with Snow Fairy Perfume or indeed the shower gel. This dusting powder keeps it smell for a long time after application so you can use it in place of a perfume. It's perfect for a night out as it will absorb some of your sweat whilst keeping you smelling and feeling clean.

While Candy Fluff claims to contain lots of sparkle, I've not noticed that much on my skin when I apply the stuff so you're not going to end up sparkling like a Twilight vampire. To prove my point; I tend to use this powder after I've washed my bedsheets - sprinkling a generous amount on after I've made my bed so I can enjoy the smell while I'm sleeping. Having done this for the last few months, I've yet to find myself covered in lustre after the experience.

It was originally priced at £6.10 back when it was still being sold so £6.95 is a pretty reasonable price. This may sound like quite a lot for what is glorified talcum powder. However, the 80g pot that I acquired has lasted me nearly a year so far and I've only used up about half a tub. 

Candy Fluff is now a firm favourite of mine - I've officially joined the club of obsessives. While it doesn't quite rank above Karma, it's a great treat after a relaxing bath and will be one I stock up on anytime Lush choose to offer it to the world.
