Asparagus : I’ve had great success grilling thick or thin asparagus spears. Choose whatever is fresh in the market.

When choosing asparagus to cook on a grill, it can be helpful to choose thick asparagus spears if you will be placing them directly on the grill rack; however, if you place the asparagus perpendicular to the grill grate, you should not have any issues whether the asparagus are thick or thin.
Both thin and thick asparagus can be placed in a vegetable grill basket .
Prepare the asparagus : A trim and a quick rinse under running water is a must. Don’t soak them! Then, pat them dry with paper towels.
Preheat the grill : Heat up the grill to medium-high heat (about 375 – 400 degrees Fahrenheit).
Season : Toss the asparagus spears with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. The oil is very important. Coating them with a layer of oil prevents them from drying out. Oil is a good conductor of heat also.
Grill : With kitchen tongs, place the asparagus on the grill (perpendicular to the grill grates) or in a grill basket. Make sure the spears are in an even layer. Grill for 4 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally so they char evenly. Asparagus cook so fast that I never have a chance to close the lid. They are ready when they are charred and tender. Remove from the grill and onto a plate.
Melt Butter : Meanwhile, melt the butter with the garlic. Add the lemon juice and the fresh parsley.
Serve : Pour the garlic butter over the asparagus and top with Parmesan. Serve!

Storing : Store cooked asparagus in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 days.
Heating : Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the leftover asparagus on a baking sheet. Heat in the oven until warm through.
Freezing : I don’t recommend freezing grilled asparagus as they become mushy when thawed out.
