Первая монография, в названии которой стоят слова "биохимическая экология", причем не только в России, не только в СССР. В монографии впервые дается обобщение широкого фактического материала, посвященного экологической роли химических веществ как факторов, участвующих в стабилизации или дестабилизации экологического равновесия в биосфере. Приведены данные о природных веществах - посредниках в экологических взаимоотношениях. Рассмотрены вопросы экологии различных эукариотических организмов, включая водоросли, грибы, сосудистые растения, беспозвоночных и позвоночных животных. Суммированная и классифицированная в книге информация имеет существенное значение для развития интегральной системы защиты растений и управления агроэкосистемами, для борьбы с загрязнением среды, для некоторых направлений биотехнологии. Из опубликованного отзыва на эту книгу: …опубликована книга “Введение в биохимическую экологию” (изд-во МГУ, 1986), в которой заложены основы новой научной дисциплины на стыке экологии и биохимии, биохимической экологии. В книге проанализирован большой объем новых фактов. Выдвинуто предложение ввести новые научные термины – экологические хемомедиаторы и экологические хеморегуляторы. Дальнейшее развитие науки подтвердило целесообразность этого предложения. Кроме того, в книге имеется глава, посвященная важным проблемам экотоксикологии. Ценность этой главы сохраняется и сейчас, книга полностью сохранила актуальность. Не случайно она была переведена на другие языки (на польский и болгарский) и используется как основа для преподавания новой научной дисциплины в нескольких странах (в том числе в РФ, Польше, Белоруссии, на Украине). Положения, обобщения и инновации автора этой книги, С.А. Остроумова, были полностью поддержаны и повторены в последующих публикациях других авторов, в том числе, например, в книге трех иркутских авторов, которые подтвердили и повторили изложение мыслей С.А. Остроумова в своем учебном пособии, изданном в Иркутске в 2007. The spraying of plants with water extracts caused a decrease in the number of winged aphids settling the plants, as well as in the number of aphids on plants during the entire season. Pot marigold extract proved to be the most effective in this respect. The number of aphids on plants which were sprayed with it was significantly lower not only in comparison with plants not sprayed but also in comparison with plants sprayed with cypress spurge extract. D. rapae parasitoid also had a large impact in the control of aphid num- ber. The degree of parasitation ranged from 21%-62% depending on the year of research and combination. The highest level of parasitation (%) was recorded in aphid colonies feeding on plants which were sprayed with pot marigold extract, and the lowest (%) on plants sprayed with cypress spurge extract.
