The author of the reviewed articles is S. Ostroumov (Moscow State University), Doctor of Biological Sciences. His new articles continue previous publications, among which there are several books, including "Hydrobionts in the self-purification of waters," "On the study of certain issues of ecology," etc. He wrote chapters of several collective monographs, including "Innovative Aspects of Biogeochemistry", etc. The author tested the material of new articles in the reports he made at institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and at the meetings of the series of round tables "Problems of the hydrosphere" under the aegis of the Moscow Society of Naturalists.
Articles contain new facts and their critical analysis. Included are new facts obtained in the author's experimental work. These publications are focused on important scientific issues.
