Dear friends,
"My father Ismail Adam Hamid was arrested on the 16th of January during the anti austerity peaceful protests. Since then we don't know anything about him, we don't know the condition of his detention."
Those are the words of Zuhal W, daughter of a teacher and anti-austerity protestor in Sudan. Now she's started a Care2 petition asking the international community to help her bring attention to her father's plight. Will you sign Zuhal's petition to help free her father and other peaceful political protestors in Sudan?
Ismail has spent a month in custody without medical attention or any contact with his family. During that time, his daughter has used social media to document her ceaseless efforts to get answers from the Sudanese government — including one night when officials cruelly promised to release political prisoners, only to continue holding most of them hostage.
Every political prisoner in Sudan has a story like this. Hoping to bring attention to the extreme struggles of the Sudanese people, they came together to protest the government's austerity policies. But instead of hearing their plea, the government imprisoned them — silencing their voices, severing their connections with their families, and implicitly threatening anyone else who might dare to speak out.
Thank you,
 Miranda B.
