Driving Miss Daisy

When I was a kid there was a toy called a Daisy Air Rifle, throw the lever  against the heavy weight of the internal springs and a charge of air would be chambered. Upon pulling the trigger a loud "shot" would discharge from the muzzle.  A little bar was inserted across the muzzle to prevent kids from stuffing the barrel with potentially eye damaging projectiles.  We used to stick the muzzle in the ground and a plug of soil would become the ammo.  The forced air would shoot the dirt a shot way and that would be it.

No kid ever walked about with an AR-15.

Yesterday's vengeance shooting by yet another person who should never have, and was not old enough to have a gun under local law, resulted in more gun control screams.

Folks that horse left the barn during the Obama administration , when gun ownership reached all time highs and manufacturers could not keep up with demand. Profits shot up  incredibly and the administration said little and did even less.

The gun control screams for Congress to do something was deafening, yet again.

I say screw Congress , they do nothing as it is, why should we suddenly expect a change.

I say that each state form a well regulated militia.  If you want to own a weapon, you must join.  And much the same way as they license me to drive a car, I can be licensed to own a firearm.  If I possess a firearm I must be registered as a member of the militia and I must have my phonto license to possess that firearm

My license to own a firearm can be revoked in the same manner as my drivers license can be revoked.  If I speed in my car I get a ticket. If I commit an infraction or if I become unstable or drug or alcohol addicted or commit domestic violence, my license to own a firearm can be revoked for a period of time or forever.

Each state can set up rules for licensure and can enforce them without offense to the 2nd Amendment.  The idea that you are going to take guns out of the population is a farce, there are too many of them.  There are as many guns as their are people.  But we sure can license ownership just as we do license drivers.

It only takes some State level imagination, do not rely on the Federal malaise and discord to accomplish anything.  They are too busy sabotaging our own government to care about us.  The stupidity that passes as governance is incredible.  Mueller and Page and Strozk  all amount to bullshit and the media complicity in this mix is simply awful

Do yourself and your nation a favor by asking you state legislators to fashion a gun licensing  requirement similar to drivers testing and licensing. Vision test, past record test, competency to operate the appliance, free from physical and mental defect.  Yes we can have you go get examined by a physician who can state that he detects no impediment. If you fall off the wagon you license can be revoked.

We have to try some other way.
