It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup. YA and middle grade reviews will still be posted on Ms. Martin Teaches Media - my other blog.
Other Than Reading...
Happy New Year! I hope everyone has a wonderful 2018.
Last week was quiet but very cold. Our high temperatures haven't got above zero for more than a few minutes all week. This morning the actual air temperature when I got up was -17. As I'm writing this at 10:30 Saturday morning we have a bright and sunny -14. Luckily, I have no reason to leave the house and no plans to do so.
I've been concentrating on reading this past week. I've also set up my blog calendar through February and written and scheduled the posts I could do ahead. I've got my book reviews as ready as they can be before I've actually read the book. I've read 4 of my February review books but have 20 more to go.
New Year's Eve update:
I'm sitting here Sunday morning in my "So Many Books So Little Time" tee-shirt and thought it would be a good time to look at my bookish life in 2017.
Starting at LibraryThing, I see that I added 414 books to my collection in 2017. 317 of them were Kindle books. The first book I added on Jan. 3 was Amanda Bouchet's Breath of Fire. The most recent book added was Anne Leckie's Provenance. Two hundred eleven of my 2017 books are still unread. Of those 414, 186 were review books. 141 of the review books came from NetGalley and 9 from Edelweiss. The rest from publishers like Macmillan and Bloomsbury which still send me the occasional print copy. I have 45 books in my Review Pending collection.
Looking at my Google Sheets Reading Log for 2017, I see that I read 265 books. GoodReads says more but I read some in 2016 that I forgot to enter until after Jan. 1 and I couldn't put them on my 2016 list. 96 were mine and 166 were for review which doesn't add up to 265 which is kind of baffling since books should either be mine or be for review. Looking back, I see that I read 3 books from my High School Media Center collection in March. Victory! The numbers match. Looks like I need to add a Borrowed column to my spreadsheet.
Looking at my Google Sheets Review Books, I see that I reviewed 165 2017 releases and have already got 21 2018 reviews ready to go.
All in all, a pretty productive year.
Read Last Week
- Final Siege by Scarlett Cole - Nice romantic suspense title. My review will be posted on Jan. 27.
- Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter - TBR mountain since Oct. 20, 2014. Great conclusion to the Heist Society trilogy. My review will be posted on Jan. 24.
- Layover by Amy Andelson & Emily Meyer - YA contemporary for review. Nice story about kids who don't want to lose their family in a divorce. My review will be posted on Jan. 26.
- This Fallen Prey by Kelley Armstrong - next Rockton thriller tells what happens when a serial killer is brought there. Nice twisty plot. My review will be posted on Jan. 30.
- Survive the Night by Katie Ruggle - third in Rocky Mountain K-9 romantic suspense series. Most awkward romantic couple I've ever read adds humor to an otherwise very suspenseful story. My review will be posted on Jan. 31.
- Look for Me by Lisa Gardner - Excellent mystery. My first D. D. Warren but not my last. My review will be posted on Feb. 1.
Lake Silence by Anne Bishop was as wonderful as I was hoping it would be. Set in the world of the Others but starring new characters, this book had great worldbuilding, fascinating characters, and an exciting plot. My review will be posted on March 3.
Currently
The Greed by Scott Bergstrom is a YA review book thriller that is the sequel to The Cruelty.
