Thursday 22nd December saw another picket organized by First bus drivers at the Rusholme
Depot in support of their ongoing dispute over pay. Drivers at First's Rushome depo are
being paid up to £5000 a year less than colleagues working at the First's Queen's Road
base just five miles away. The drivers at the Rusholme depo originally worked for
Finglands Buses who were taken over by First Manchester in 2013. At the time of the
takeover the Finglands drivers were promised parity but after repeated promises by First
to harmonizes pay, drivers at Rusholme still find themselves being paid 23% less. ---- As
one picket stated "at Rusholme we do exactly the same job with the same commitment to
passenger safety as their colleagues across Greater Manchester - and when we are driving
within the city centre, we are even overlapping on the same routes, yet we are being paid
£5000 a year less"
As part of their campaign the drivers have been taking a series of strikes the latest of
which took place on the 20th, 22nd and 23rd December. In an attempt to head off the
strikes First Buses put forward an "offer" which amounted to little more than yet more
promises to harmonize pay at a future date. The offer was put to drivers at a meeting
outside the Rusholme depo and was unanimously rejected by a show of hands.
The drivers vowed to carry on their campaign to end the disgrace of workers being paid 23%
less than than other workers doing exactly the same job for the same company.

It was 200 years ago that Karl Marx was born. Why continue today to explain the
fundamentals of his criticism of the economy ? Simply because, if there is one
theoretical element common to Marxism and anarchism, it is the analysis of capitalism.
---- So much so that one can say that the critique of the economy corresponds - in an
assumed or repressed way - to the " Marxian " dimension of anarchism. To call oneself "
Marxian " and not " Marxist " amounts to adhering to Marx's method of analysis, but not
to his political orientations and those of his appointed successors - parliamentary or
authoritarian socialists. ---- Beyond their differences on socialism, Proudhon, Marx and
Bakunin had many identities of views: on the ownership of the means of production and the
class struggle, the wage-earning, on the idea that only the work is creator of wealth ,
therefore of surplus value.
Marx borrowed much from the writings of other authors (Ricardo, Proudhon, Victor
Regardant, Saint-Simon ...). His monumental work, Capital, condenses all these
contributions, bringing the analysis to a degree of rigor and clarity without precedent.
It has since been integrated into the theoretical corpus of the various currents of
socialism, including anarchism.
Evoking, in a manuscript of 1870, Marx's " magnificent work on Capital " , Bakunin
judges that it " should have been translated into French for a long time, because none,
to my knowledge, contain such a profound and luminous analysis. as scientific, as decisive
and, if I may so express myself, as mercilessly unmasking, the formation of bourgeois
capital and the systematic and cruel exploitation that this capital continues to exert on
the work of the proletariat ".
But the historical quarrel between Marx and Bakunin would lead the majority of the
anarchists of the following generations to throw the baby with the bathwater. From now on,
in the anarchist movement, the name of Karl Marx could only be pronounced with a grin of
disgust ... For several decades, few were those who assumed this legacy - and among them
we can quote Amédée Dunois (1878- 1945), Georges Fontenis (1920-2010) or Daniel Guérin
(1904-1988) - before the libertarian communist current openly integrates " the best of
Marx ".
In the 1970s, the Anarchist Revolutionary Organization reissued the Abridge of Cafiero's
Capital . Subsequently the UTCL and finally Alternative Libertarian have continued this
momentum.

On January 13, 2018, a new far-right local will open in Lyon. ---- The GUD, violent group
close to neo-Nazi circles, will try under a new entity "Social Bastion" to re-open a local
called "The Black Flag". ---- What is the Social Bastion? ---- The Union Defense Group
(GUD) has recently been dormant to try to federate various radical groups under the
"Social Bastion" movement. ---- This movement is directly inspired by the Italian
neo-fascist model "Casa Pound" and the Greek neo-Nazi movement "Golden Dawn". ---- Their
strategy is simple: apply a social - national policy and try to spread it in society. This
is what they tried to do last July when they tried to open a building that was supposedly
reserved for French homeless people, whereas it was more about having a local in the city
center to train militants. ---- One of their "model", the Italian Casapound, is an
organization that runs in the elections on the basis of ethnic division and opposition
between "working class" people (according to them) and the others, with significant
electoral results. .
We must therefore challenge this model and this is the meaning of this first action of 13/01.
Do not leave this room open in Lyon
In Strasbourg, the "Social Bastion" opened a local in early December and a unit
mobilization was set up with a first event on December 9 and a scheduled on January 20.
In Lyon, it is out of the question to let a new local open! (see cartography on the blog
at the end of the leaflet)
Recently, the aggression committed by these small groups are multiplying and let the
Gud-Bastion Social have a local open to the public on Lyon is not a tolerable option: this
place will allow them to gather, form ideologically and in combat ...
There needs unity among the working classes who see their rights to life threatened (in
employment, social protection, health ...) and should not be mistaken for anger. Their
enemies are not "foreigners" but "unemployment and precariousness" as well as right-wing
and left-wing policies that do not seek solutions by the way, in particular, of a more
just distribution of wealth.
In solidarity with assaulted people, targeted by their skin colors, their sexual
orientation, their gender or the simple fact of campaigning for an egalitarian society, we
must mobilize!
This is why we are calling for a rally on Saturday 13th January at 5pm at the Place de la
Comédie (metro Hôtel de Ville).
All together, let's close the Black Pavilion!
The Black Pavilion is our first goal but we do not forget the other existing premises in Lyon.

THE CGT BID TO REQUEST THE FREEZING OF TRANSPORTATION FEES ---- The CGT as an
anarcho-syndicalist organization, for many years struggling for public transport that is
affordable for everyone and of quality. This fight goes from the railway sector (RENFE,
METRO ...) to the transport of passengers by road. ---- The CGT has repeatedly denounced
the continuing abuse of the increases in transport titles and, specifically the CGT de
Metro, we have been demanding a long time and demanding social security rates for all the
workers. ---- The CGT strongly rejects the tariff increase approved by the ATM (a 2%
average rate increase) where the most commonly used titles are punished, such as the T-10,
which will cost 10.20 €. This represents a much higher rise than the expected CPI which
was 1.2% in December. ---- It is curious that a political party, such as Bcn en Comú, has
made this ascent when, not so long ago, it was positioned against it and defended
reductions in the price of travel titles.
It is also curious that the argument for raising the price is exactly the same as used by
his predecessors Xavier Trias (mayor of Barcelona by CiU) and Joaquim Forn (Regidor de
mobilitat and president of TMB for CiU): The reduction of subsidies by the Central
Administration.
From the CGT in Metro, we have reiterated that the oversized management of Directors and
their wage costs does not help to improve the economic management of Metro.
Likewise, the lack of social vision of public passenger transport has, for years, had a
company such as the Subway much closer to a marketing or advertising company and not to a
railway operation where travelers are transported.
From CGT we understand the transport of people as a right that must be socially
sustainable for Administrations. A right where workers can access with quality and without
abuses by those who are currently managing the ATM: A political party, Bcn en Comú, that
together with the collusion of the PSC and the ancient CiU do the same politics.
A policy that is said:
* Maintenance of the management domes that have not managed the company's resources in
order to favor the citizens who travel in Metro and improve the quality.
* Maintenance of opacity in everything that refers to managers' salaries. This point has
begun to be invested, not thanks to the actions of Mayor Ada Colau and Mercedes Vidal
(President of TMB), despite the demand brought by the CGT, which together with the
pressure of other cols .lectius have been forced to reverse this situation with a portal
of transparency.
* Maintenance and renegotiation of millionaire contracts with financial entities and
companies such as Caixabank, Indra, Fujitsu and Moventia, where they will probably leave
their future in public transport.
It is in this scenario where the public transport managers in Barcelona and the
Metropolitan Area opt for the continuity of the same policies that the PSC and CiU did in
the day and that Bcn in Comú criticized so much.
From the CGT we express our rejection of these neoliberal policies in which workers are
the most punished class.
We demand, as we have always done, that public transport is of high quality:
* Investment in Template, which is the one that really serves the citizen.
* Investment in Infrastructures to increase the kilometers of road in a conventional and
non-Pharaonic Metro. A subway at the service of the citizen and not a "showcase" for the
exterior where some managers put up medals and waste resources that ultimately, among
other things, make the price of travel titles increase.
* Investment in improvements to rolling stock (trains) and maintenance.
From the CGT de Metro we demand and claim a Public Transport that is really a company
that transports travelers and does not dedicate itself to other fields that do not
correspond to a true public transport company of travelers.
We demand that Bcn in Common, guilty of this increase in Rates, rectify and return to the
freezing and downward revision of the most used Travel Titles. A justification such as the
reduction of subsidies from the Central Administration is not admissible, when in the
Metro there are more than duplicate structures that entail costs that directly affect the
user in a negative way.
Nor is the amount that Metro dedicates to advertising and marketing admissible. From the
Metro CGT, we demand that Bcn in Commune discuss these public money expenses that go to
private hands.
It is inadmissible that Metro has external companies contracted, dedicating a large amount
of resources and that could be reduced and improved in quality if made by Metro personnel.
All these expenses that the current Public Transport Managers of Barcelona dedicate to
waste it, outside the company itself, could perfectly devote it to not increase the Rates
and to enable the reduction.
All this has a name: Management. Good management that we currently believe strongly that
it is not being done and that involves having a Transport with abusive tariffs and with a
quality of service that is more than better.
We will not tire of publicly denouncing all the abuse that politicians make to working
classes, not promoting a quality transport and at a low price.
From the Metro CGT, we encourage all citizens to demand a sustainable Public Transport
and with honest management that ensures the well-being of all of us: workers, users and
citizens.
COMING IS FRIENDLY!!!

Thanks to everyone who came yesterday for sharing your ideas. We had a group of about 16
people come down for a very interesting discussion on the future direction of the AF. ----
We have decided that the first projects we want to work on are producing plain language,
approachable propaganda including pamphlets, videos, cartoons and podcasts. We want to
explain anarchist theory and anarchist perspectives on modern problems to people who don't
have a PhD in philosophy and get outside ‘the bubble'. ---- One of the other interesting
things that came out of the meeting was that nearly everyone was there because they felt
isolated and/or didn't know any other anarchists. We want to develop a community of people
who share similar ideas and hopefully can become friends. So, we will also be holding
socials and trying to spend time together as a group.
Meetings: In the future meetings will be fun(ish). We will try to having working meetings
where, after a bit of discussion, we will be working on projects together as a group. If a
particular member doesn't have the skills for that project or wants a break they can cook
for the group or serenade us with guitar (hi, Drew). Hopefully this mean we will get stuff
done, enjoy our meetings and enjoy each other's company. Meetings will be held
approximately every two weeks, alternating between Sat afternoons and a weeknight evening
to fit with shiftwork. Venues will likely be Common House, May Day Rooms and Freedom.
We have an email list going- message the AF London page or aflondon@riseup.net if you
would like to be added- and will have a Slack (or similar) group for organising projects.
Next meeting: 20th Jan venue TBC. Bring examples of designs/books/pamphlets/videos you
think are good and outlines of projects you want to work on and the resources you need
(e.g. I want to make a podcast, I need people to help write, some recording facilities and
someone who knows how to edit).
