The talk will cover the life and times of the great composer and organist J.S. Bach, from his birth in Germany in 1685 until his death 65 years later. As well as covering his own life story, it will also look at what Germany and Europe were like at that time and the sad story of his two wives. It will finish by looking at how and why his reputation fell into decline and then revived, and to Bach’s enduring legacy, not least in popular culture. The talk will be illustrated with a PowerPoint presentation. The talk will be in English
Wally Oppenheim is a retired History teacher who leads the very popular History Groups in Paphos Third Age. He also regularly gives lectures on History to other organisations and contributes a monthly article on History for PALS magazine.
Directions: Head down the Polis road and turn right at the traffic lights at Papantoniou Supermarket. Go over the small cross roads and the venue will be found on the right.
