That depends on what you consider better water conditions. We conducted several experiments with corbicula lumina, diplodon paralellopipedon and we found a positive effect clarifying the water, mean, they are able to filtrate and reduce phytoplankton biomass quite eficiently. However, they rapidly recirculate nutrients that become available for other primary producers...... Morevoer, they seem not to be too effective with buoyancy regulate species like some cianobacteria.
Altogether, my answer for your question will not be as simple or linear as I expected when I started working with this organ¡isms
