The recent situation in Syria has been marked by the defeats of Daesh in many regions and
cities of Syria (Raqqa in particular), but they were made at the cost of thousands of
civilian deaths. And oppressive governments (the Syrian regime and its allies, including
the Russian and Iranian powers such as the US and France united in the international
coalition, the Turkish regime and other regional regimes) are jostling like raptors to
control certain regions and sectors economic. In this situation, is a return to peace and
the access of the Syrian people to democracy possible ? ---- At the same time, in areas
where Daesh is not present and who have freed themselves from the control of the Assad
dictatorship following the revolution that began in 2011, Assad and his allies continue to
starve the civilian population and to bomb them (specifically targeting hospitals,
markets). Not to mention the thousands of political prisoners who languish in the regime's
jails, and are very often tortured.

While the pressure continues on all the opponents to make them accept the maintenance of
the regime of Assad in power, what form of solidarity with the Syrian people (political,
humanitarian ...) ?

Brighton Solidarity Federation has started a dispute with the letting agency Youngs on
Upper St James's Street. Two tenants have been organising in regards to structural damp,
presence of severe black mould and overall dilapidation issues that created unsafe living
conditions - dangerous to the tenants' health - throughout their tenancies at two separate
properties managed by Youngs. Both tenants are demanding compensation for such issues and
one of them, who is still living in the property, is urgently requesting that a number of
neglected and still unresolved problems are attended to by the agency. ---- Along with the
tenants, Brighton SolFed wrote to Youngs on 20th November, explaining the issues and
outlining options for redress. Youngs chose to ignore this letter and, despite a further
contact from SolFed and the tenants highlighting the demands, the two-week deadline for
their response passed. Consequently, along with the tenants, Brighton SolFed has begun a
public dispute with Youngs. This began with a picket outside the branch at 4pm on Monday
4th December. Many members of the public showed solidarity with the picket. Indeed,
another Youngs tenant has since been in contact to explain details of their own grievance
with the agency and several others shared similar stories of their past issues with Youngs.

With the support of Brighton SolFed, one tenant is demanding £6,900 in compensation for
the stress caused by the unsafe conditions in the property, as well as for the failure of
the agency to protect their deposit. This tenant had to swap rooms with their children, as
the conditions in the children's bedroom were making them ill. After the tenant arranged
their own survey of the property, the landlords admitted there were structural damp
problems, but said they would not spend money to address them. On top of this, the tenant
was told that their deposit had been lost by the agency.

A second tenant had their health problems exacerbated by a property which has had
numerous, long-standing problems: these include the bedroom being inaccessible for several
months due to extreme black mould; damp due to poor construction work outside the
property; and a ceiling collapse due to these structural problems. Many of these problems
the tenant has had to remedy themselves, while the agency dithered or simply did not
recognise the scale of the danger to the tenant's health. Other serious issues are still
to be attended to and the tenant is demanding for the agency to do this urgently and to
industry standard. Additionally the tenant is demanding  £5,500 in compensation for having
lived in serious damp conditions while the agency continuously failed to respond
adequately to their communications.

Youngs have ignored these problems until now, which means the dispute has been taken to
the streets by the tenants and Brighton SolFed. The solidarity we have been shown already
goes to demonstrate that agencies cannot treat tenants like this, and testifies to the
widespread and increasing frustration on the part of tenants in Brighton and beyond.
Recognising how our problems are often shared by many others can grant us real power to
fight back against the appalling neglect that threatens the safe and peaceful enjoyment of
our tenancies. Through solidarity and direct action, ordinary people have the power to
improve their lives.

An injury to one is an injury to all!

To feminize without jargon is possible. For twenty-five years, the Alternative Libertarian
magazine has been experimenting and changing its practices. ---- The publication in
September by Hatier of a feminized school textbook sparked a public debate on inclusive
writing. Often to denigrate (Le Point, current values, Le Figaro ...), sometimes to
question (Liberation, Obs, The World, The Parisian ...). The team of the monthly
Alternative Libertarian, who assiduously practice the thing, has his opinion on the issue.
---- If the feminization of the texts can not constitute the alpha and the omega of a
anti-sexist policy, it interests us in that it rebalances a French language which,
traditionally, gives primacy to the masculine. ---- For decades, several methods of
feminization coexist. The best known is to add to each word, "  e  ", "  ice  " and " euse
" between hyphens, between parentheses, or between points or even between midpoints.
This is the choice made by Hatier, who writes, for example: "   Thanks to farmers,
artisans and tradesmen, Gaul was a rich country.  "

In this way, the magazine Alternative Libertarian feminized in the years 1990-2000, before
adopting the feminization by circumlocution and / or repetition, a method inspired by the
Quebec Office of the French language, pioneer in the matter.

Why this evolution  ? Due to a double statement. First, the method of addition concerns
only the culture of writing ; it is therefore quite elitist, and even a bit hypocritical
since not reproducible in oral. Secondly, it can be perceived as a militant metalanguage,
thus excluding for an uninitiated readership.

The alternative libertarian monthly , which aspires to a writing at once inclusive and
attractive, has therefore built its own hybrid method: use of periphrasis and / or
repetition  ; adding an e preceded by a single point when the male-female difference is
not audible  ; possibility of agreeing the adjective with the nearest word.

Juggle with possibilities to avoid ambiguities
Thus we will not write "   Turkish, Greek and Armenian workers have decided to stand up "
but, for example, "   Turkish workers and women workers" , Greek and Armenian are decided
to face  "(repetition and agreement of the adjective with the word closest). Nor will we
write "   Inactive Renderings " through the mediation of government officials, the
workers, and the employees went around in circles   , but rather "   Condemned to
inaction." through government mediation, the workers, the workers, and the employees went
round and round   (periphrasis, repetition, and addition of points).

To conclude: the logic that guides us is not to blindly apply an intangible rule, but to
juggle the possibilities to avoid ambiguities, heaviness or galling. We are not robots  !

Brighton SolFed is making public a dispute with a cafe who are unwilling to settle
outstanding pay of over £4K. The former worker, who stopped work at the establishment in
early June has been asking to be paid ever since. As attempts to resolve the issue
amicably were ignored or frustrated by Cafe Plenty, Brighton Solfed is now going public to
warn potential staff and customers. ---- After getting nowhere, she approached Brighton
Solidarity Federation for support. The business are not disputing they owe the money - in
fact they finally paid part of the money owed two weeks ago. However £4,482 is still
outstanding. After multiple attempts to resolve the dispute, including a face-to-face
meeting, we are now stepping up our public campaign in support of the aggrieved worker.

The anarchist group Rouvikonas attacked the Saudi embassy in Athens in the early hours of
December 14 in protest of the bombings in Yemen. ---- A video of the attack, as well as a
group statement, were posted on  Athens Indymedia . ---- According to the video, at least
six people who arrived on motorcycles participated in the attack. ---- In the Rouvikonas
communiqué, it is noted that the group protested against the federal laws established in
Saudi Arabia by the family dictatorship that governs the country, as well as against
attempts to extend them throughout the Middle East and beyond. ---- The note states that
everything that Daesh has been doing for decades in Saudi Arabia. "Saudi Arabia buys
international tolerance by paying with petrodollars," says anarchists who criticized the
Greek government's plans to sell ammunition to the Saudis.

The statement also states that the Arab country is waging "an unknown war in Yemen," where
"it has created a hell of a hell for tens of thousands of people."

"In Yemen a genocide is committed, and the Western media remain as silent as possible,"
the statement said.

This year, the Rouvikonas attacked several buildings and public institutions on dozens of
occasions.

If they had been allowed to get away with this we would have no self-respect - our grief
would have become an excuse for the rich to party. They've murdered 71 of us - now they
choose to dance on our graves. To not respond as our comrades did in forcing them to
observe a minutes silence would have been sickening. ---- We've done dignity, don't make a
fuss - where's that got us - not a single person questioned by the police - hundreds in
hotels. ---- time for change ---- MEDIA ---- Hooded gang storms celebrity party near
Grenfell Tower chanting 'Tory scum' and forces guests including Jemima Khan to observe
minute's silence for the victims Gang of 'extremists' storms party at Maxilla club near
Grenfell Tower in London They cut off the music and allegedly made 'anti-Semitic' remarks
to guests Celebrities including Jemima Khan were forced to observe minute's silence It
came after a peaceful silent march to mark six months since deadly tragedy

Extremists stormed a Christmas-themed celebrity party in the shadow of Grenfell Tower
chanting 'Tory scum' and allegedly making anti-Semitic remarks.

The 'threatening' hooded group turned off the music, blamed the 'Tories' present for the
fire, and ordered more than 100 guests including heiress Jemima Khan to observe a
one-minute silence, witnesses said.

The police were called and the party was shut down two hours early. A witness described it
as 'a glimpse of Corbyn's Britain'.

The incident happened after a peaceful silent march on Thursday night to mark six months
since the Grenfell fire that killed 71.

It passed the Maxilla Social Club, frequented by the local community but available for
private hire, in Notting Hill, West London, where the 'low-key' party was happening.

Financier and environmentalist Ben Goldsmith, brother to Miss Khan and to Tory MP Zac
Goldsmith, said a 25-strong mob of aggressive Grenfell hangers-on became aware wealthy
celebrities were inside, and decided to look for trouble. He claimed they were anti-Semitic.

Mr Goldsmith, 37, said in a tweet: 'Just had a glimpse of Corbyn's Britain. A birthday
party for my sister-in-law in Notting Hill invaded and shut down by a vicious
bottle-throwing hard Leftist crowd (from the Grenfell march), because they could. The
nasty, violent, self-righteous hard Left has hijacked the Grenfell tragedy and its victims
for political ends.'

The club, in the arches of the Westway flyover carrying the A40, has become well known for
staging events for Grenfell victims and was a centre for food and clothing donations in
the aftermath of the fire.

A club spokesman confirmed 'idiot' outsiders had latched on to the peaceful remembrance of
the fire by locals, and had caused an unpleasant incident at the party, which had been
attended by American socialite Paris Hilton, although she had left before trouble began.

Police confirmed they were called but said no crimes were alleged and no arrests were made.

'It was quite a low-key event, in a working men's club with people drinking beer, not
champagne.

'At about 11.30pm a group of around 25 hard-Left anarchist-type Grenfell protesters with
'the Tories have blood on their hands' and '**** the Tories' placards spotted a handful of
people smoking outside the party and started hurling first abuse and then eggs and bottles.

'Anyone outside disappeared inside pretty quickly, and the owner/manager of the club tried
unsuccessfully to prevent the protesters from barging in after them.

'They got up on to the little stage, threw out the guy doing the music, and started
shouting and yelling that the Grenfell fire was the fault of the people in the room and
that we were 'Tory Rothschild scum'.'

Mr Goldsmith's grandfather was Jewish, and he famously split from ex-wife and heiress Kate
Emma Rothschild in 2012 after her affair with rapper Jay Electronica. He accused the
protesters of anti-Semitism, saying: 'When they referred to Rothschild, I guess it was a
euphemism for Jewish.'

One guest said he had heard one of the intruders say: 'This is disrespectful, a party
here, I hear there are Jews and wealthy people inside.'

The spokesman for the club stressed that the intruders were not from the area, saying:
'They were people looking for trouble. I'm born and bred round here, and I know they
weren't locals.'

Christmas decorations bought for the party have been left behind to be used at a Grenfell
Christmas dinner at the club next week.

We recommend your attention to https://workerswildwest.wordpress.com , where you will find
online issues of the WORKERS WILD WEST newspaper from west London. The newspaper also
features articles in Polish, addressed to Polish migrants. We reprint one of them: ----
Recover strength - living space, friendship and support network. ---- We live in a strange
world. We spend more time at work than with friends and family. At work, we lose most of
our lives, but we say that we can separate our work from private life. We do not want to
take work seriously, because nobody at work treats us seriously. The creative potential
and life energy of billions of people are wasted due to the prevailing way of organizing
work.  ---- Democration? You're kidding! ---- They tell us that we live in a democracy,
but in the place where we spend most of our lives, we have nothing to say. Work is
organized in such a way as to make it difficult to make friends or develop them. The
machines are too loud, the assembly line is fast (often we pay attention to "stop
talking"), people come and go so "why learn about each other?", Some think that they will
get a better position when they show that they are better employees than those "lazy".
Despite the story of "teamwork", competition between employees is still growing. The work
is monotonous and makes us barely live, so how to make contacts with others?

Some steps to regain real control!

It is true that we do not control what is happening in our company, what and how we
produce, who and why it is employed or dismissed. However, we can start by creating
conditions that are convenient for yourself and others, places where there are no
standards to be met, and for that there are conditions for contact with others.

* Take a breath of pressure at work and try not to compete with others. Do not work faster
than others, try to work more slowly and give more time to colleagues. Convince others.

* Do not give management to others. If you have a problem, talk to your colleagues
directly, together you will find a solution.

* Respect newly employed and employed agencies, even if you expect not to stay for long.
Explain the relationship in the plant and that there is no point in getting rid of dog money.

* Help others if the managers shout, discipline or humiliate them. If there are more of
you, you can ask the manager for an apology.

* On a break, instead of staring at a mobile phone, try to talk to others about the
weather, work, life. Try to break language barriers, not everyone is good at English, so
if someone is trying, be patient.

* Take as little overtime as possible. Although everyone needs money, it pays off only in
the short term. In the long run, they will force people to work longer for the same money.

We can demand more!

These are small steps, but thanks to them, the atmosphere at work changes. They will help
us when we demand more. This will not happen overnight. We can start with the closest
colleagues whom we trust.

There are always at least small conflicts with the management about the speed of work,
overtime, directing employees to worse jobs or worse, for promised permanent employment,
non-payment of supplements, disciplinary procedures, etc.

We usually accept these changes, we say that nothing can be done to do or that others do
not want to join. We often justify our fear by saying that "the only option is to strike,
but nobody wants to strike." There are, however, some things that can be done and do not
put yourself in too much danger.

* Purchase a group of colleagues, just a few people.

* Talk about small steps that can be taken to show managers that people are unhappy.

* You can strictly follow the rules of health and safety, perform only those tasks that
are recorded in the contract. Such a slowdown usually has a strong impact.

* Find ways to stop machine or computer activity so that you do not risk yourself and
others. Find ways to slow down your work so that managers are not able to find out who is
guilty.

* Another way could be an unofficial boycott of overtime, which will show you have enough,
but it will not put you in danger. The more people join, the more you will gain.

* Do the job, but do not talk to the boss, do not tell them good morning or goodbye. If
everyone sticks to it, managers will feel it over time and may consider changes in favor
of employees.

* Find a way to present your demands without appointing a representative, the managers
will throw him out or bribe him. We do not need heroes but common actions!

* Try to talk to employees from other departments and convince yourself to similar
activities, eg during a meeting after work.

* Sometimes the management does not like when the media or company's clients find out that
their employees are not dissatisfied or when the standards may not be met. You can do it
or threaten that you will do it, but in such a way that you will not reveal yourself to
the leadership.

There are many ways to put pressure on bosses. The more people join in the better, but
even a small group can make life difficult for them. The problem is that you do not reveal
yourself and avoid an open fight that you can lose.

Work and after work - why join the Workers Wild West support network?

Being poor is not fun, especially when you are alone. However, if you join others and
support us, then we can protect ourselves better. For this reason, we have established a
support network in West London.

Many of us often change jobs, but its conditions are similar everywhere. Problems occur at
work, but are often not limited to it. After work, instead of fighting with the company's
management, we fight with the landlord, job center officials or the state administration.
Politicians set us against each other - local workers against immigrants, followers of
Jesus against the followers of Muhammad. They want us to fight for the scuffles thrown at
us. We must oppose this and defend ourselves. We do not need leaders. What and how can we do?

We meet every week at various locations in Southall, Acton, Park Royal and Greenford. If
you or your friends have a problem, come to one meeting place, write an e-mail or call. We
will discuss the problem and see how to put pressure on people who want to throw you out
or evict you, etc. These are a few examples:

* The ASAP agency from Greenford did not pay for paid vacation. Employees called and sent
reminder, but this had no effect. We prepared leaflets, we went to the office in eight
people, we threatened that we would not leave it until we were paid and that we would
inform new people arriving at the office about how the agency works. Within half an hour
we got the outstanding money.

* The department dealing with housing allowances in Ealing refused to pay a three-month
allowance to one of our friends, who is an immigrant from the EU and has been working in
the UK for eight years. We sent several appeals and eventually we came to the Watford
court of appeal, we did not need a lawyer. Finally, the friend regained the overdue allowance.

* Southall visa broker collected 10,000 £ from a colleague working in a warehouse. In
exchange for this sum, he promised IT training, a work visa and employment. He did not
keep his promise and refused to return the money when a friend demanded it. We blocked his
office and threatened to make pickets under his three training offices. He gradually
returned the entire sum.

* The temporary employment agency "Hays" did not pay the street cleaner the salary for
three days of work. He sent a reminder, but eventually distributed the leaflets to other
employees of the Amey recycling center in Greenford. He also threatened to inform the
media about it. Eventually, they paid the overdue salary.

* Templine temporary employment agency in Sainsbury still harassing a friend because of
several sick days confirmed by sick leave. We wrote a complaint, so they gave him a break.

The more we are, the more we will achieve. This is not just about regaining what belongs
to us. This is about employee awareness and building local solidarity against the poverty
in which we live!
