In Africa Can the Private Sector take the Lead? On Infrastructure & Education

While I agree with people who believe that we need to wait for the public sector to help transform the economy of the continent by providing adequate infrastructure for businesses to thrive, it is also worthy of note that we have been waiting as a continent for decades with no sign of change looming. Every household has become its own government providing energy and water supply for itself and businesses are being forced to provide essential infrastructure that would allow them to be able to thrive in the market place.

In light of this, I ask a key question: What if we can adopt a new model which leverages private sector growth to propel public institution and governments in Africa to action? In other to achieve the kind of growth that propels the government to action, the private sector must come together to help itself grow. Coming together would mean the ability to take advantage of synergies and economies of scale to be able to produce competitive products and services that simultaneously solve social problems and changes the economic landscape of the continent.
