Hello, and welcome back.
Here's your weekly guide to some of the most important human rights stories happening now around the world.
What should have been a short ride from one village to another in India turned into a nightmare that will haunt Kajal for the rest of her life.
  • Offered a ride home one night by an acquaintance, Kajal was gang-raped by the side of the road. What followed were hostile encounters with doctors and police officers, the breakup of her marriage, alienation from family and friends, and constant taunting and harassment.
  • But Kajal found the courage to fight against the stigmas that confront many victims of rape in India, and fight for justice.
  • Kajal's fight to regain her dignity after facing so much humiliation mirrors a story all too common among rape survivors in India. But her resilience is a step toward ending the nightmare.
