BEING POSITIVE IN A NEGATIVE WORLD

Out of our daily life experience, we know that life is not always rosy and joyous always. At times, it is hardly anything but gloomy and stormy. But those who are optimistic and brave, find in these moments, opportunities of Joy and happiness.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples, that obstacles are sure to come in life to all. But he wishes to focus on the additional obstacles every follower of Christ will face in a world against Christ and the Gospel. Jesus also warns his disciples to be agents of negativity, by becoming scandals and obstacles to the growth of the life of other Christians. He in turn asks them to gain a positive attitude by growing in faith, which would also help in uprooting deep roots of sin and despair from life.

This starts firstly by being followers of Christ who are strong in their faith in Jesus and his teaching. Secondly, by being positive to all that is against the disciple. This would make him/her to face all tribulation with the grace and help of the Holy Spirit. Finally, the disciple should not be disheartened by failure, by condemnation, but must be willing to forgive and become an example of love and mercy to all. They would thus “shine in the world like bright stars because you are (they would be) offering it the world of life (Ph 2:15-16).”

Jesus metaphorically speaks about uprooting a tree and planting it in the sea. When we are faced with something impossible in our life, we should trust in the power of God to do the impossible. Jesus calls you to be today to be a positive change this negative world needs.

Prayer: Lord, I am a weak person, increase in me faith, that I may walk away from my sin and become a true follower of You. May I be a positive change in a world that needs to know You. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.
