Tortured for posting videos to Facebook
Dear friends, In the past few years, social media has become a powerful tool for activism for movements all over the world, from Tahrir Square to Occupy Wall Street. Through social media we are able to communicate information quickly and intimately all over the world. Tadjadine Mahamat Babouri, known as Mahadine, used this powerful tool last year and criticized the government of Chad for alleged misuse of public funds. Mahadine has been arrested and tortured for posting Facebook videos — please take action now and ask for his immediate release. Within days of posting the videos to Facebook, Mahadine was snatched from the street in broad daylight by a group of men believed to be intelligence officers. As a father of seven, he was beaten, electrocuted and chained up for weeks, and not given food or water. By posting a few videos on Facebook, Mahadine now faces life in prison. He has sustained serious injuries from his torture and contracted tuberculosis from poor prison conditions. Take action now and ask the government of Chad for immediate medical attention for Mahadine. It’s been over a year since Mahadine was arrested, and with his failing health we cannot delay our actions for his release. Luc, take action now and ask for Mahadine’s immediate release. Thank you for taking action. Margaret Huang Executive Director Amnesty International USA
