The other night as the tail end of Hurricane Nate worked its way into the Northeast I was treated to one of the best October skies I can remember. These were the leading edge clouds that gave way to two days of tropical humidity and rain and elevated temperatures.
This morning on my early walk, I searched for and found Orion's belt in the clear dark sky. My Brother in Law had tiped me off to looking for it, just as he had tipped me to the flyover of the Space Station a few days back. So already this moth has produced some memorable sky watching.
I wonder if study of the sky, not as an astronomer, as an amateur viewer qualifies as a hobby.
I suppose a case could be made for me it is an enjoyable no cost activity.
Later on in the morning as I drove to work, I noticed that the sky was clear with high horse mane clouds being pulled in the wake of Nate out to the North Atlantic and I though that conditions for tonight should be ideal if sufficient numbers of clouds remain behind.
The horse man clouds are feathered by the high altitude wind look just like the mane of a fast galloping horse.
I hope the latter part of the month is as good as the early part.
