Yet � just like in so many other parts of the world � that is exactly what is happening in Western Java. Only this time, the spectacle is more grotesque and violent than in almost any place else. On the island of Java, Indonesia it seems that some people are getting their kicks � and making a pretty penny � off the pain and suffering of our fellow living things. In this part of the country, dog fighters pit their prized pups against wild boars, and the "match" isn't over until one ends up dead. The two animals are put in a sunken pit lined with bamboo so tall it makes it impossible for them to escape. Then hundreds of people gather around to see the sick display. Dogs bite chunks out of squealing pigs. Pigs toss helpless dogs several feet into the air. And all for a few minutes of entertainment for a cheering crowd. But those few minutes, are usually the last moments of life for one of the four-footed participants. And while it is utterly cruel, officials have yet to stop it. We can change that.
