Rail guards on the 3rd October took action to protect their jobs on Northern,? Southern,
Merseyrail and Greater Anglia. The strike is aimed at preventing the rail companies
removing the guards from trains and operating driver only trains. The RMT rail union
stated  "RMT members are standing absolutely rock solid and united this morning in these
four separate disputes as they make the case for safe, secure and accessible rail service
for all." ---- Though passengers generally associate rail guards with checking tickets and
operating the doors, guards have a crucial safety-critical role on trains. Historically it
is the guard who has been in charge of overall safety on trains. In the event of accidents
or emergencies it is the role of the guard to evacuate the train and take safety measures
that prevent collisions with other trains. Other safety roles include dealing with on
board fires and assisting with overhead line isolation.

The attempt by rail companies to remove guards from trains is yet another example of
companies putting profit before the safety of passengers. There can also be little doubt
that the move is also designed to weaken the power of rail workers. The RMT is one of the
few unions left in the UK willing to take direct action to protect jobs, conditions and
pay on a regular basis. Removing the guards will weaken the power of the rail workers and
make it harder to fight the bosses.

We urge everyone to support the the next day of action due to take place on 5th October.

Ledbury Estate tenants and supporters demonstrated on Sunday 17th Sept after several days
with no heating. Ledbury Estate flats in Southwark have been declared unsafe due to cracks
in the 13 storey towerblocks, which the tenants have been protesting about for years, and
Southwark Council has told the tenants they will need to be decanted so the blocks can be
repaired. The cracks are big enough to see daylight through and are a fire risk as well as
a risk to the integrity of the building.  The gas has been cut off as a safety measure
forcing tenants to go to shower in a nearby leisure centre and their only cooking
facilities are small two-ring mini cookers. Now with the onset of colder autumn weather
there is no heating for the tenants at all as the electrical power supply cannot cope with
high load so no fan heaters or plug in radiators are permitted. One block has already had
an overnight total power failure.
Ledbury Estate is built to the same design as Ronan Point, a tower block in Canning Town
that collapsed due to a gas explosion in 1968 killing 4 people. Blocks of this design
should not have gas heating fitted at all. Other blocks with similar design including
Lethbridge House (Lewisham) and Broadwater Farm (Haringey) have had extra safety tests.
The tenants have complained that they are not being given clear information by the council
and are very concerned about right to return to their flats if they move out for repairs
to be carried out.
Ledbury tenants have called another demonstration for the coming Sunday at 3pm outside the
Community Centre, Pencraig Way, SE15 1SH.

The Melbourne Anarchist Communist Group supports a YES vote in the postal survey on
marriage equality now in progress in Australia. We do this, not because we endorse the
institution of marriage, but because the survey will have concrete results and we need to
choose which results we favour. The postal survey is a flawed process of direct democracy,
something far inferior to an authentic plebiscite on a concrete proposal. We didn't choose
this battlefield, but it's a battle we must win. Vote YES for liberty, equality and
solidarity. Vote YES and prepare to take the struggle further. ---- The Melbourne
Anarchist Communist Group supports a YES vote in the postal survey on marriage equality
now in progress in Australia. We do this, not because we endorse the institution of
marriage, but because the survey will have concrete results and we need to choose which
results we favour.

Marriage is a reactionary social institution which exists so that men can ensure that
their property will be inherited by children who are unquestionably their own offspring.
Historically, it was also a means for negotiating alliances between families to advance
their interests. The wishes and interests of women were of little account in the process.
Marriage has thus been part of the subordination of women to men within class society.
With the rise of capitalism, romantic love gradually superseded dynastic manoeuvring,
allowing individuals relative freedom in choosing their partner. Such freedom is still
subordinated, though, to the need to ensure paternity in the inheritance of property.

In recent decades, social prejudices against homosexual activity have been decaying, a
consequence of widespread contraception, which has severed the previously iron link
between sex and reproduction. This has opened the door for LGBTIQ people to gain wider
acceptance in society and allowed their struggles for equality to achieve greater success.
The struggles have been hard fought, because power concedes nothing without a demand, but
the preconditions for success now exist in a way they didn't a century ago.

In 2004, the Coalition Government of John Howard saw the growing push for equality in
society by LGBTIQ people and decided that something had to be done to stop it. Howard saw
he would have trouble holding the line in the face of a piecemeal push against a series of
petty material forms of discrimination, so he decided that he would draw a line in the
sand over a major symbolic issue - marriage. After a brief media campaign, the Labor Party
capitulated and voted with the Coalition to entrench compulsory heterosexuality in the
Marriage Act. Howard had won another battle in his culture wars and had his position
strengthened. What few anticipated, though, was how far and how fast public opinion would
change.

Until Howard changed the Marriage Act, getting the legal right to marry had not been a
priority of the LGBTIQ movement. For the most part, it saw marriage as a reactionary
institution. There had only been a few stirrings of interest, provoked by developments in
the United States. Howard had engaged in a pre-emptive strike, ensuring that marriage
equality would not be achieved through the courts. His action turned the political
situation around. The Marriage Act now stands as a massive statement by the State that
LGBTIQ people are not equal to straight people and their relationships are second class
ones. The LGBTIQ movement got the message and realised that social equality wasn't going
to be achieved without marriage equality. The forces of reaction have chosen their ground
and we must wage our battle on that field, or not at all.

In itself, changing the Marriage Act to allow couples of the same sex to marry is a very
minor reform. LGBTIQ people will have access to a reactionary institution which will be
rendered irrelevant by a workers' revolution which abolishes property and thus
inheritance. The significance of the campaign for marriage equality, though, is in the
enemy we must defeat to achieve it. We are fighting organised religion, with the Catholic
Church at its head. We are fighting some of the most powerful and justly hated figures on
the political Right in Australia, including Tony Abbott, Cory Bernardi and Andrew Bolt.
And we are fighting the Fascists, who have taken time out from spreading Islamophobia and
anti-Semitism to demonstrate that this campaign is not about marriage, but about the
legitimacy of homosexuality itself. If we win, we put these people to flight. If we lose,
we will face a festival of reaction such as Australia hasn't seen since the 1950s.

The postal survey is a flawed process of direct democracy, something far inferior to an
authentic plebiscite on a concrete proposal. We didn't choose this battlefield, but it's a
battle we must win. Vote YES for liberty, equality and solidarity. Vote YES and prepare to
take the struggle further.

This event, organized by the Athenaeum Libertario of Florence, takes place biennially and
is the most structured among the activities which in Italy are designed to offer a look at
the current panorama of publications, projects, self-productions and the most varied
cultural activities expressed by the movement. ---- In this year's edition, as always, in
addition to many libertarian realities of the Italian peninsula were also present some
expressions of the exterior (I saw tables and "districts" of books, among others, of
French compas, and of the "La Baronata" (Switzerland), who had also participated in the
last editions of Vitrine, and the compas of the Black Rose.) ---- During the three days of
the activity (22, 23 and 24 September 2017), it was possible to develop a number of
presentations, debates, shows, initiatives, concerts, in this place that became, despite
perhaps some inherent contradictions, already traditional to this manifestation: the
Obihall Theater, near the River Arno, in the south of Florence, which is also located in a
peculiar address because of a pleasant and rare coincidence: the street is called Fabrizio
de Andre, which was , after 18 years of deceased) the most renowned Italian
singer-songwriter with sympathies and sympathies.

In the great hall of the theater were the tables of the present realities (which exhibited
their "products": books, paintings, handicrafts, food, self-productions, etc.). In the
scenario, separated from the rest of the room by a movable panel, and close to the same
scenario, were concerts, and many of the presentations and debates scheduled. In addition,
in the first level of the theater there was another room where they had more debates and
presentations.

The program was complex and rich, and since we are not ubiquitous, we had to choose
sometimes between equally interesting proposals that would develop at the same time and
all, with surprising punctuality.

There were also permanent displays:

- In charge of the same Athenaeum Libertarian of Florence: A) "Anarchist periodicals in
the world"; B) "Poster proposals for the promotion of the Showcase"; C) "One hundred years
of anarchist anti-militarism";

- In charge of the Biblioteca Franco Serantini: "Cecilia colony and libertarian Utopias";

- In charge of the Collective Emile Henry: "Cinema and Anarchy";

- In charge of Lavinia Raccanello: "Portrait anarchist of Italy - Cartography of the
streets dedicated in Italy to anarchists".

Workshops for restoration of books and craft and artistic spaces for children and adults.

On the walls: Francesco's murals from the Casino. Very appreciated and varied, the food
prepared by and by the hostesses, with many specialties and recipes from the Tuscany region.

Next is the program of presentations and events. I also add a few notes about one of the
activities I personally attended.

On 28 September, the International Day for the Right to Abortion will take place. The
slogan of this year is to launch a European mobilization for the inscription of this right
as well as the right of women to freely dispose of their bodies in European legislation.
---- As the European Union advocates the defense of human  rights  , the right to abortion
is still not guaranteed, sometimes in defiance of women's lives. It is severely restricted
in Poland, Cyprus, Andorra and Ireland (women only have access to it in case of danger to
the mother, sometimes in case of rape or malformation of the fetus), and it is totally
forbidden in Malta. Its non-inclusion in European law was even a prerequisite for Poland
when it joined the EU in 2004 and by Ireland during the negotiation of the Lisbon Treaty.
---- With the development of reactionary parties in the various branches of power, this
right is often attacked and questioned where it is recognized. After an attempt to limit
abortion in Spain in 2013 - which failed because of the challenge - it was access to
abortion for minors that was reduced. And only a broad mobilization prevented its total
ban in Poland in October 2016.

Faced with this situation, dozens of French associations, unions and political
organizations, joined by Polish, Belgian, Spanish and Turkish feminist associations - from
twenty-three countries in all - created a collective around the 28 September. Events and
events will take place throughout the week, and a delegation will be sent to Brussels. A
petition is online on the specially created website [1].

Of course, not all countries are at the same level of progress on this issue, and
expectations are not the same in countries where abortion is still considered a crime - in
Malta it is punishable by three years of prison and fourteen years in Ireland ! - and in
France, where the heart of the problem is rather the lack of funding and the closure of
abortion centers. The length of time an abortion is possible also varies greatly. For
example, it is ten weeks in Croatia and Slovenia and twenty-four weeks in the United
Kingdom and the Netherlands [2].

A juicy clandestine market

However, it is in the interest of all of us to support ourselves towards a widespread
improvement: a right guaranteed in all countries, with sufficient means for all to have
access to it. Worldwide, an estimated 47,000 women die every year because of a clandestine
abortion [3]. In Europe, women generally obtain abortion pills, do what is called
indecently "  abortive tourism  ", as if it were a holiday, or call on physicians who
practice them at prohibitive prices . A juicy clandestine market that takes place at a
high price for women.

Recall that abortion must be a right AND a choice. The forced sterilization of Roma women
in Slovakia and Hungary also involves violence and mutilation. In both directions, women's
bodies are a battlefield. It is up to us to recover our rights !

If the petition and a letter are to be delivered to the European deputies on 28 September
in Brussels, alternative libertarian think that it is above all on the street that the
mobilization must be strong. We have no illusions as to what the next European elections
will bring in 2019. There is only one sweeping movement that could make an intrinsically
anti-democratic institution, constructed not in the interests of but to promote the
enrichment of the capitalists.

Fighting against austerity measures in France by mobilizing on 12 September also means
fighting against the closures of the IVG center and for better access to abortion. It will
also be necessary to be present and present in all the cities where collectives are built
around September 28. It will also be necessary to be in Brussels to remind that it is up
to each woman to decide, not to the elected officials - especially since 63  % of MEPs are
men.

Calderdale SF/IWA condemns the police violence against Catalan citizens on the 1st October
2017 who went to vote on what the Spanish state has declared to be an illegal referendum
on independence. While, as anarchosyndicalists, we don't support the creation of a new
state, which reflects mainly the interests of the Catalan bourgeoisie, we do condemn all
police violence and intimidation against men, women and children. Instead of the creation
of new states with warring police and capitalist factions pitted against one another, we
favour the deeply embedded solution of libertarian federalism - free, self-managed
communities that are plural, open and tolerant.

Calderdale SF also supports the general strike called in Catalonia by independent unions
such as our sister union the CNT/IWA on 3rd October, which not only opposes a capitalist
free-for-all as proposed by all state actors but which also defends the self-empowerment
of the working class.

The Vrije Bond (Free Union) is a group of people who are trying to build a different
society: a society without hierarchies, without oppression and without exploitation of
humans, animals and the environment; an anarchist society in which we deal with each other
on a basis of equality. The members of the Vrije Bond are all working in their own way, in
their own city, neighborhood, job or action group, to create such a society. They are
doing this through direct action, by organizing discussions, writing articles or supplying
information. The Vrije Bond serves as a platform to meet each other, to exchange
experiences, to develop theory and strategies, but also to organize activities and to
support them. ---- Anarchism ---- A better world, that's what anarchism stands for: a
world without domination and exploitation, based on cooperation and solidarity. A world
wherein everybody can decide for him or herself how to shape their lives, based on the
principle of equality and the freedom of speech and action. This is a fantastic idea, but
it's not easy to build this world. For such changes we cannot rely on representative
democracy. The revolution that is necessary for such a world can only be reached through
cooperation and organization from the bottom up. That's why it is important that we
anarchists organize ourselves, because together we stand strong.

Self organization

The Vrije Bond strives to a society wherein all political and economic power from above is
replaced by structures of free forms of cooperation. In these relationships political and
economic life will be organized collectively and all decisions will be taken collectively.
The Vrije Bond is such a form of cooperation: an anarchist self-organization. This means
that we work together when necessary but that affiliated groups and individuals keep their
autonomy. By having regular (open) meetings, direct actions, and campaigns, a solidarity
fund, a website and the magazine ‘Buiten de Orde' the Vrije Bond as an organizational
structure wants to support and strengthen the anarchist movement.

‘Buiten de Orde'

The Vrije Bond publishes the quarterly magazine ‘Buiten de Orde' (Outside the Order). It's
filled with information, interviews, and discussions about, amongst others, anarchism,
self-management, workers' struggles, human rights, anti-fascism, anti-militarism,
environmental actions, resistance and independent culture. The magazine is free for
members of the Vrije Bond, and for sale for everyone else.

Solidarity Fund

Another important activity of the Vrije Bond is the Solidarity Fund. Through this fund the
members of the Vrije Bond support each other's actions and activities, such as (direct)
actions by the groups within the Vrije Bond, such as picket lines, civilian inspections
and action camps. Initiatives such as an anarchist library or info shop are also
supported. Sister organizations abroad or non-members can also make use of this fund.

Join the Vrije Bond!

The Vrije Bond is growing, so join now! Sign up and help us building a strong anarchist
movement in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Following on the attacks by the Spanish police on the Catalan referendum there was a
solidarity protest called in Dublin at short notice with well over 100 people
attending.[Video] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x17dYn2tcGU ---- The text below was read
out from Alfred, CUP activist and member of the cooperative social centre LA BAULA. ----
"Dear all that came here this evening to show solidarity. Thank you so much. I'll just
give you a small taste of what most of Catalan people experienced yesterday. ---- In my
city, Lleida there were dozens of violent evictions of polling stations. One of them was
my own polling station, a local school, where myself and others from our community had
organised together collectively to defend against the police. It was just ordinary people,
realising that the police force was not on our side, but on the side of the state against
our democratic rights and immutable freedoms.

So, we organised ourselves to defend those rights and were correct to do so because the
next day, the police came in with full force against us, using violence to force the will
of the state onto us peaceful protesters, injuring scores of people and stealing the
ballot boxes where people had exercised one of their basic rights - that of
self-determination.

This is what happened yesterday across Catalonia, the inhumanity and full, ugly face of
the state's brutality was met by our people with humanity, solidarity and love.

On the side of human dignity, I saw the whole spectrum of our society --- young and old,
men and women, middle and working class, grassroots activists, shop owners from the
neighbourhood, local and regional elected individuals, public officials, students,
teachers, neighbours with their families, farmers, migrants - even people not registered
to vote in Catalonia, coming down to support and the self-determination of our people.
These ordinary people proved absolutely fearless in the face of threats and acts of
violence committed by Spanish police forces and sanctioned by the State. We proved
yesterday that the power lies not in the hands of the elites, the politicians or police,
but with ordinary people - and that people power has changed Spain utterly forever.

If at some point you're told that the cause of Catalan people is merely a nationalist one,
that we are acting selfishly against the rest of Spain, please think about what we saw
yesterday. About the more than 800 people who were injured peacefully protesting for the
rights of us all to live in a world we determine for ourselves.

We see today that the Spanish establishment, the state but also the media, still blame the
Catalan people and their institutions, whilst the EU remain painfully silent in the face
of the Franco-esq style bullying tactics of the Spanish government. Yesterday's victory is
only the start of what we must organise, mass mobilisations are needed to hold Spain to
account and to uphold our success.

Here's where international solidarity is crucial and that's why your presence here today
is so important. We must confirm the massive victory that yesterday's resistance meant and
a crucial component of this is will be a continued pressure on the Spanish state and
institutions.
We thank you with all our hearts. We won't soon forget the solidarity from the people of
Ireland.

Els carrers seran sempre nostres!"

Since last May, prisoners in Korydallos Prison (wings A, B, C, D) are launching
mobilizations claiming the satisfaction of a series of requests. In their call for a
massive mobilization, the prisoners who are also in other prisons in the country respond
positively. The demands of the detainees and their subsequent struggle, with denial of
lock in the cells at noon and refusal to block the courtyard late in the evening, are a
mound in the plan of authorizing the legal framework for those inside the walls. In
particular, detainees require: ---- * The establishment of the provisions of Law 4322/2015
(Paraskevopoulos Law), without limitations and exceptions. This law concerns the release
of detainees. But the arbitrariness of judicial judgments cuts and seizes the law as they
wish, especially through the imminent introduction of a judicial council, with
responsibility for approving or rejecting the release. As a result, an informal hostage
regime for prisoners is being machined. Nonetheless, "prominent" figures of the political
elite, such as Akis Tsochatzopoulos and Vassilis Papageorgopoulos, especially known for
money laundering, were from the benefits of the law, proving that justice is classical and
is turning a blind eye to "her own children". * The Paraskevopoulos law was finally
renewed, but extended both the exceptions to categories of prisoners and mainly the use of
the burdensome measures of the "home-based" restriction and the "electronic surveillance"
(bracelet) that prosecutors can now impose on to suspend the detainees.

* The removal of the prosecutor's veto for granting licenses. This law has been kept since
the ministry of the MP. Nikou Dendia and resolves the hands of the prosecuting
authorities. Thus, even if the prison council has a majority opinion in favor of granting
a license, the veto of the prosecutor overrides the above-mentioned procedure and rejects
the granting of a permit. It is obvious that there are straps of connection between state
administrators and public prosecutors, which also explains the vagacity of the prosecuting
veto over the granting of licenses, especially if one takes into account the fact that the
prosecutors do not have the slightest friction with the detainees but only see them in the
disciplinary councils that decide on their punishment or the licensing councils.

* The abolition of the law on the cumulative execution of sentences for specific offenses
within prisons, during or after the breach, with the result that prisoners are required to
serve two separate sentences. In this way, extra prisoners are being charged, since the
merger of sentences is not recognized by the legal framework. This means that the offenses
committed within the prison, during or after a period of leave, begin to run after the
initial sentence has been completed. This measure also avoids racist mobilizations and
uprisings in prisons, as well as the daily resistance of the detainees against the
arbitrariness and barbarity of their prisoners, thus, in addition to a fear, another
narrow loop on the neck of the inmates.

We know that nothing, even partial, is won without a fight. As long as the state
administrators try to convince us that they make concessions from their good heart, the
very subjects of the struggle are well aware that the few conquests and fragmentary
victories against our class enemy are the result of long struggles. At the same time, the
promises of SYRIZA. to respect the rights and to improve prison conditions, having
capitalized on the polls, collapsed miserably. On the contrary, SYRIZA has demonstrated
brutal cruelty against enclaved subjects, both politically and criminally, by clearly
stating that the state has continued. Some races are important to be able to recover.
However, in order to get rid of state and capitalist barbarism, we must link these
struggles with a total revolutionary project that devastates the world of state and
capitalism to give way to an emancipated society of political freedom and economic
equality , in a generalized self-management society, with solidarity as a coherent link.
That is why we are building common struggle fronts inside and outside the walls. To
finally break down to the last prison. To get rid of all the shackles. in a generalized
self-management society, with solidarity as a coherent link. That is why we are building
