Below is the statement from the Kurdish-speaking Anarchist Forum ( KAF ), a
Kurdish-speaking anarchist group, following the Iraqi government's recent attack on Kirkuk
and other positions held by the Kurds and against the destructive policies of the Kurdish
government. Marsoud Barzani. Translation Alasbarricadas . To read another article
reflecting on the referendum of Iraqi Kurdistan we suggest the article 'Are we now for or
against?' Reflections of a Kurd in Germany on the referendum of Basur. ---- Immediate call
to all our comrades anarchists and libertarians wherever they are ---- A direct and
special call to our anarchist comrades and Arab-speaking libertarians ---- No to the
State, No to war. Yes to self-management and social revolution ---- For years and years
we, anarchists and libertarians in Iraqi Kurdistan, Europe and other countries, our motto
has been "Yes for self-management everywhere and for all communities, but not the State"
as well as the orientation of all our communications.
Başûr, Kurdistan in the state of Iraq
We raised our voice against the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and its very recent
referendum scenario for an "independent Kurdish state." We are sure that the other Arab,
Turkish, Assyrian and other anarchists had the same attitude. We also believe that our
fellow anarchists around the world will have maintained their attitude against the state,
authority, nationalism and nationalist and pro-fascist war.
Iraqi "Kurdistan" has been through a difficult time since October 2015. Wages for public
sector employees have fallen to less than half, the number of unemployed has risen
sharply, the price of everything has gone up, business and government services have been
dramatically cut. All of this happened in addition to the war with Isis and disputes
between (KRG) and the central government over the budget and disputed lands and cities,
such as Kirkuk and others.
During this year many strikes, demonstrations and boycott work took place. Some of them
lasted for weeks, even months. The KRG, instead of solving all these problems, tried to
divert people's attention from real problems by announcing an independent Kurdistan
referendum in July, the state of Kurdistan, by September 25.
Masoud Barzani, the head of KRG, established referendum day without consulting Iraqis,
neighboring countries, the US or European countries. Once he called a referendum, everyone
rejected him and told him he would not receive any support.
After the referendum of 25 September, the governments of Iraq, Iran and Turkey joined
against him and threatened the KRG with economic sanctions. The Iraqi government asked the
KRG to withdraw the referendum call and comply with the Iraqi constitution. Haider
al-Abadi, Iraq's prime minister, warned Barzani that if he did not back down, the Iraqi
government will take over the oil wells in Kirkuk province, which are now under KRG control.
Three days ago, the Iraqi government sent large numbers of policemen, military personnel
and Hishdi Shaibe [the Siha paramilitary group] with assorted heavy weapons to take
positions on the approaches to the city.
The civil war is now very imminent between Peshmarga, the KRG forces and the
aforementioned central government forces.
We ask for support and solidarity from our fellow anarchists: protests and statements
against this war, showing your anger against the war and your solidarity with the Iraqi
people.
We are anti-statists because we are against the current political system. We are an
anti-political and anti-authoritarian ideology from left to right, because we are against
superior classes, private property and labor exploitation. All the wars of history took
place to protect the ruling classes, private property and labor exploitation.
We are against war, guns and hatred between different cultures and between different
ethnic minorities. War generally results in death and enslavement. The outcome of any war
does not support the beginning of the social revolution, in fact it damages and weakens
the climate of the revolution. Meanwhile, the war opens a very large market for the
purchase and sale of weapons and the destruction of the environment. War impoverishes the
poor and class superiority perpetuates itself.
Pipeline from Kirkuk to Ceyhan
Although we are against the war, we are very much in favor of self-management of people
wherever they live in community and work collectively. We also know that wherever there is
a state there is no freedom, wherever the political party system is, there is no
self-thinking and individual independence. Wherever businessmen and money are, there are
wages of slavery and exploited people.
In Iraqi "Kurdistan" there has been a strong authority over the last 26 years, there has
been a bourgeoisie in power. For the past 26 years people have been deprived of real
freedom and self-making. For a long time, the ruler has done very little for the people in
"Kurdistan" in the matter of rendering them services. They encouraged people to move from
rural areas to cities and towns, entered into so many commercial contracts with the
foreign oil company and corporations for their own benefit, sold all public lands and many
others. In short, "Kurdistan" became the home of many multinational companies, financial
institutions and the spy network of neighboring countries and others. Since then they
acted as an appropriate state in what they wanted. So why should we expect something
different when they establish their own "independent state" and think it will be better
than what people have now?
We ask all our anarchist comrades to support us and be in solidarity with us to avoid this
war. It is true that their opposition to military and nationalist war in Iraq, if it does
happen, may not be as effective as our opposition, but their solidarity will be crucial
and highly appreciated.
We call on all our fellow anarchists, especially Arabs, Persians, Turks and Assyrians, to
raise their voices and act to stop this liquid war that does not favor the working class
and the poor people of Iraq and "Kurdistan." To shut up and not to be taken seriously,
directly or indirectly serves the politicians, the big corporations and the capitalist
system. Therefore, we have no choice but to fight against the system, its action and its
war. We also hope that the other anarchists, wherever they are, will join us, stand strong
and support children, the elderly and disabled people in Iraq.
Not to the war
Not the state
No to nationalism and patriotism
Not the system of capitalism
Yes to solidarity and to unite against the war
Yes to self-organization
Yes to the social struggle
Yes to the social revolution
Yes to social revolt
Yes to self-management

Panel Discussion: Jin, Jiyan, Azadi - Gender Equality in Kurdish Society
Women, Life, Freedom. The YPJ, the women's protection units of the Kurdish militia, have
come increasing to the attention of the world's media to the obvious shock of the west.
How, they seem to ask, can a non western society embody a progressive model without our
intervention? Does the obvious gender equality within the military extend to Kurdish civil
society? And can this homegrown feminism be seen as an alternative model for the broader
east? Free/unticketed

5. WestGAP is looking for volunteers!
We are a collectively-run, volunteer welfare rights and anti-poverty group, based in
Cessnock, Glasgow. Everyone at WestGAP is a volunteer. We provide practical support and
solidarity to people in the welfare system.
We are in urgent need of new volunteers, ideally people who can commit a half-day or day a
week, and who are interested in taking our free training route to becoming a volunteer
welfare rights advisor.
We currently only have two welfare rights advisors; we urgently need to double this to
make WestGAP more sustainable.
Volunteer advisors are supported by our in-house and external training and support
programme; we organise 6-weekly peer-support sessions for practical and emotional
reflection, feedback, and guidance. We also organise regular in-house training on the
benefits system, as well as free access to Glasgow Social Work Department's comprehensive
Welfare Rights training. All new volunteers shadow our existing advisors till they feel
ready to move to advising themselves.
While we want our volunteers to be committed to WestGAP's aims and values, we also
recognise that training as a volunteer advisor with WestGAP can be a supportive route into
paid work in welfare rights.
All our volunteers get travel expenses and lunch expenses recompensed.
If you think you could help then PLEASE get in touch:

The government is multiplying advertisements and ineffective measures to " fight "
immigration. The latest measures aim to establish humanitarian hotspots and corridors
while diminishing the capacity of humanitarian organizations. ---- In his speech of July
27, Macron promised a better care of the refugees, and declared: " By the end of the
year, I no longer want anyone in the streets, in the woods. " If his wish to see realized
a day, it is certainly not due to measures announced. On the ground, police violence
continued: gassing in Calais and elsewhere, daily repression at the border, and so on.
---- Humanitarian Corridors, Ofpra Examination Centers ---- According to Macron, there are
good and bad migrants: refugees and " economic " migrants . The objective of his
government is to see only the first, by sorting before their arrival on French territory,
in centers located in Africa: Libya, Niger and Chad in particular. Missions of the French
Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (Ofpra) will be responsible
for examining asylum applications in order to help those who are considered legitimate.
Only those whose asylum application has been validated will be able to fly to Paris ; it
is better than a makeshift craft on the Mediterranean, but the places will be very
limited. Such a humanitarian corridor was established in Ethiopia by Italy to provide more
humane immigration requirements for 500 réfugié.es in two years [1]. Given the small
number of places, the smugglers' business is unlikely to end any time soon.
This solution, developed in the offices of the Élysée, is not unanimous among the African
countries concerned, who fear that more refugees will arrive on their territory. They
demand financial commitments in favor of a solution to the Libyan crisis, the
stabilization of Mali and the development of countries such as Niger or Chad. German
Chancellor Angela Merkel seems open to such a solution, but Macron does not want to hear
about financial aid. For him the problem of Africa is rather " civilizational " [2].
Create " human sorting centers " in countries like Libya, which has not signed any
international treaty to protect human rights is condemning migrants to abusive and violent
treatment [3]. Libya's current negotiations with factions in Libya are aimed at rebuilding
Libya as an auxiliary of the EU's migration control policies at the expense of the most
basic human rights such as 'was the case when Colonel Gaddafi was in power, and as is done
with Turkey [4]. The closure of the borders of the European Union will therefore continue,
with a substantial increase in the budget of the European agency Frontex, which has
tripled in three years, for a total of 300 million euros in 2017 [5].
Accelerated processing of asylum applications
The government has promised to reduce the asylum procedure by fourteen to six months. The
objective is to sort as soon as possible between those who can benefit from the "
protection " of France and those who will be taken back to the border as soon as
possible. In 2016, 85,000 people have applied for asylum, and their number is expected to
increase by 15% this year [6].
How is it planned to handle all these asylum applications for a response within six months
? Means still unknown will be granted to Ofpra [7]. One can also imagine the increase in
botched examinations, procedures to speed up and dehumanize the processing of
applications, and the reclassification of certain countries as safe, as was done recently
for Albania.
As for the creation of the promised accommodation places, it is insufficient for real
needs, and arrives too late in the face of urgency. " Currently, France's capacity to
accommodate asylum seekers is between 70,000 and 80,000 places. The government wants to
create 4,000 additional seats in 2018 and 3,500 in 2019. But if we do the calculation we
do not reach the 110,000 asylum seekers in France today. And so the promise not see any
migrant in the street by the end of the year is simply, according to specialists,
untenable " [8].
The bill strengthening internal security and the fight against terrorism, examined on 12
September by the National Assembly, endorsed and aggravated the main measures of the state
of emergency, restricting our freedoms permanently. The so-called " frontier " checks
will be possible on all the French territory and without justification. This is a nice way
to legally cover the facial control, so facilitated, since then the police officers will
be able to carry out an identity check on the simple ground that people seem foreign to
them. This is in order to be able to multiply the deportations to the border [9].
Insufficient accommodation
Macron said his contempt for initiatives to help migrants conducted on the ground by
associations and individuals, irresponsible considers it [10]. But they would not have to
exist if the government took its responsibilities and acted humanely rather than against
international migration law.
Lydie (AL Lyon)
Asylum seekers in Europe
In 2016, the European Union granted refugee status to just over 700,000 people, compared
to 330,000 in 2015. Germany is again leading with 445,000 applications approved, three
times more than in 2015 and two thirds of the EU as a whole. Sweden has granted just under
70 000, Italy 35 000 and France 35 000. In the whole of the EU, more than 500 000 asylum
applications have therefore been refused, or treatment courses. By the end of 2016, more
than 1 million people had introduced (in 2016 or earlier) an asylum application which was
being examined by the competent national authority.
Syria remains, since 2013, the main source country for first-time asylum-seekers in
Europe, with 28% of requests. As a direct consequence of the civil war in the country,
more than 300,000 Syrians are asked each year to seek protection from the European Union
(334,820 in 2016). Afghans were more than 180,000 in 2016, and Iraqis nearly 130,000.
These three nationalities represent just over half of all asylum seekers in the European
Union.

Saturday november 2nd we are screening another documentary by the Submedia.tv collective.
We will have a short introduction before and room for discussion afterwards. The bar and
library will be open. The documentary is in ENGLISH, we will have dutch subtitles if these
are available. ---- Space opens: 19:00 ---- Starting time ‘Counterinsurgency and Social
War': 20:30 sharp ---- Summary: ---- ADAPT AND DESTROY: Counterinsurgency and Social War
Despite the unimaginable capacity for violence and coercion that they wield, states are
far more vulnerable than they let on. This is not only true of the so-called "failed
states" currently plagued by civil war and internal strife, but also the imperialist
centers of global capitalism themselves. Their fatal weakness is built into their design;
modern states are incredibly complicated and dynamic political constructions, yet at their
core they remain what they have always been - vehicles of social organization aimed at
facilitating the exploitation of the many, for the enrichment of the few.
Without the active or passive consent of the many, the few are in serious trouble. In
order to seek out and manage threats to their legitimacy and authority, states invest a
considerable amount of time, energy and resources towards the science of social control.
This science, known as COIN or Counterinsurgency doctrine, is nothing less than a
perpetual war, waged by states against their domestic populations. Their tactical
repertoire spans the gamut from violence and covert assassination, to elections, community
police liaisons, and the funding of pacifist non-profit groups. In addition to this, they
pursue divide-and-rule strategies, relying on structural institutions such as nationalism,
white supremacy, and hetero-patriarchy to fan the flames of reaction and keep us fighting
amongst ourselves. If revolutionaries hope to be successful in our efforts, it's vitally
important to understand the way our enemies view us, and the tactics and strategies that
they will deploy against us. In this month's episode of Trouble, anarchist media
collective sub.Media interviews a number of individuals as they explain some of the main
principles of counterinsurgency, and identify historical and contemporary examples of how
they are put into practice.

Join us for a couple of days of workshops, books and music! On Saturday and Sunday,
October 28 and 29, 2017 , at Leimert Park Square. ---- We ask you to schedule on Saturday
(28) and Sunday (29) for the 7th Los Angeles Anarchist Book Fair in Leimert Park! Join us
as we recreate this radical space for discussion and organization. ---- As members of the
Collective of the Anarchist Book Fair , we believe that it is essential to express protest
and rebellion against the purely authoritarian capitalist-state system which, according to
its own nature, offers us nothing more than a myriad of wars, vast inequalities and
destruction ecological value. We want to promote solidarity and unity among the various
fighting communities of Los Angeles, Southern California, and the Occupied Southwest. The
themes of the Fair this year are " Black October: Reconsidering the 'Unknown' Anarchist
Revolution of 1917 - A Century Later " and " From the Media to the Streets: Against the
Rise of the 'Alt-Right' ."
In February 1917, during the First World War, the proletariat and the peasantry launched
into a struggle in a revolution in Russia that overthrew the hated Tsar, thus paving the
way for the liberation of the countryside, cities and the whole world. The proletarians,
the peasants and the soldiers organized themselves into soviets (councils), occupied the
land, took control of the factories, and mutinied in a massive manner.
This liberating social revolution collided with the brutal repression of the Bolsheviks,
who seized power in October 1917, and subsequently mobilized to suppress the anarchists
and the autonomous workers 'and farmers' movements through Red Terror and "Communism of
War." The result of an authoritarianism that defeated the popular revolutions was the
emergence of Stalin and the defamation of communism and radicalism in the minds of many.
At this year's Book Fair, we are interested in exploring the history, background, legacies
and futures of the Russian Revolution, especially considering its often false
representation, which hides its purely anarchistic aspects. We believe that the brave
example of the people in revolt when overthrowing the despots is highly relevant to our
situation in 2017.
Over the last few years, the far right has been expanding through state platforms and
popular organization in the world and in the United States. The election of Donald Trump
not only continued and worsened violence against the oppressed as he also pardoned,
legitimized and encouraged white supremacists, KKK, and neo-Nazi "Alt-Right" with new
confidence, while inescapable media surveillance of coalitions policies and incidents
discloses information in unprecedented ways.
How did we get here? How do the fascists threaten us today? In what ways does oppression
strengthen with the newly emerging forces of the far right? What successful strategies
have been adopted between communities opposed to the far right, historically and in the
present? Our first topic explores the past and the future of 1917, while our second theme
invites us to contemplate the contemporary conditions of resistance.
We believe that the two themes complement each other. Taking into account the emergence of
the extreme right as an open movement in the streets and political platforms, we see the
urgent need to organize community self-defense and the social revolution against it. We
have yet to remember that the ideals proclaimed by these fascist forces are the very
ideals on which the modern state is based, and the United States certainly. It seems
strange to us that Trump, a real estate mogul and television personality, is now the chief
executive of the United States - a country founded on slavery and genocide of indigenous
people, the destruction of nature, reigning conformity, and the accumulation of private
wealth .
We must recognize the lineage of our comrades, past and present, in this country and
throughout the world, who have always resisted such regulatory norms, along with the
violence of the capitalist state and its large and small-scale beneficiaries known or not.
At the heart of this line of continuous resistance we see the anarchist spirit of
solidarity and the struggle for freedom.
Meanwhile, we are confronted with the resurgence of fascism 100 years after the Russian
Revolution, with the depth of imperialist militarism, and environmental destruction - all
driven by the perverse logic of capitalism that sustains both the state and the far right.
We are convinced that anarchist organizational ideas and practices retain all their
relevance today, and that they are in fact more important today than at any other
historical moment. How can one advance popular power against a system that is willing to
destroy humanity and nature simply by maintaining the current relations of privilege and
irrationality? This is our challenge. We hope you can join us in asking questions, finding
answers, and discovering the joy and power of solidarity in the collective struggle to
create a better world.
You can download the invitations to present a workshop or confirm attendance at Feirta of
the Anarchist Book as a seller by accessing the site at.anarchistbookfair.com . Admission
to the Fair is free, and we thank the Kaos Network and Leimert Park Village as sponsors
this year. We are still looking for others who want to support the efforts of the
Anarchist Book Fair. We look forward to seeing you on October 28 and 29!
Love and solidarity,
The Collective of the Los Angeles Anarchist Book Fair

On Sunday, 19 March 2017, the fascist city of the city attempted once again to surround
its rotten flesh in our city. The anarchist and anti-fascist movement of Thessaloniki, as
it is obvious, could not have left their way into this city. In the city of 35,000 Jews
exterminated in Nazi concentration camps, tens of thousands of refugees have been
sheltered in the city, in the multinational and racing city of Thessaloniki there is no
room for the remnants of the Nazis and Gotsamans. With the gatherings of the fascists and
the counterfeits at a distance of a few tens of meters, the state once again defended the
30 sorrowful wounds of the "Holy Lodge," playing the role of a "protector of public
order". But when, on the one hand, there are the defenders of freedom, equality and
dignity and on the other hand the defenders of capital, power and inhumanity make it clear
not only that the state is taking position, but that the fascists are their long hand,
regardless of whether the government is right or left. Through a miserable provocation,
the cops found an opportunity to attack the anti-fascist concentration and make arrests.
In this city, we saw the various fascists trying to appear on the road with various
occasions. But we, as anti-fascists and anti-fascists, regardless of the causes that he
puts out of his hole and rally a number of racists, Greek-believers, religious people, see
fascism as the long hand of capital. And that is why we are not separating our struggle
against the fascism from it to capitalism. Fascism is the intensification of the
capitalist condition of the exception. Our fascism wants slaves of the bosses. Fascism
intensifies the unlawfulness and militarization of labor by setting conditions for
extermination in the "overwhelming" workforce.
Understanding the central role occupied by capital-labor opposition as the relationship /
opposition from which the present (sometimes historically concrete) form of organization
of all social relations (capitalist social formation) is produced and, at the same time,
being part of the working class , we can only approach and interpret every relationship of
power within the capitalist society from a predominantly classical point of view. This
means, first of all, that we are trying to identify and highlight its special capitalist
form, the way in which the empowering relationship takes class status and serves the
interests of capital. It is a constant trend and a vital need of capital to organize all
social relations in the direction of (re) production and circulation of value.
Fascism was employed in the absolute form of the prevailing regime at a time when
capitalism was experiencing its deepest crisis, and let us not laugh, if capitalism needs
it again, he knows he always has his arrow in his quiver. Today he needs him as a tool
that acts within the bourgeois-democratic frameworks (in other words, they are ideal for
capitalism frameworks): to attack trade unionists, anti-fascists, anarchists, immigrants,
struggles, hangouts, occupations. Tomorrow we can still see the snake's egg hatching. We
do not forget how quickly all the countries in Asia were dragged, because that brought
dominance to the more obscure regimes.
Capitalism needs fascism for many reasons: as a means of disciplining the most depreciated
parts of our class (nowadays mainly immigrants), as a means of dividing the order (in
legal and unpaid workers, lgbtqia + and straight, to women and men, etc.) and as a means
of increasing or reducing labor supply in production.
Racism - the basic pillar of fascism - is essential - amongst many other relations of
oppression that "offer" the same service in the chapter - for the division of the working
class and the oppressed, for the fragmentation of its resistances. Discrimination based on
gender, sexual orientation, age, "race" and any other dividing line (straight / lgbtqia +,
legal worker / paperless, woman / man, white / black, young / are cultivated by
sovereignty carefully and reproducing both material (wage differences, exclusion of
categories from the labor market, etc.) as well as ideologically. Capitalism uses the
power relations ("takes over" from older systems, creates them, restructures them,
Racism is also necessary (again among other forms of discrimination) in order to remove
unnecessary labor from production. It is no coincidence that the Nazi and fascist
struggles that arose in Europe at the beginning of the last century first made use of
racism and patriarchy to reduce the supply of working hands. The necessity of withdrawing
huge parts of the working class from production was clear: racism was trying to get rid of
Jews and Roma and sexism with women. Thus, suddenly, with large parts of our class not
being measured in the ranks of the unemployed, the "national-socialist dream" with the
allowances, the state-paid holidays and the supposed comforts of the German working class
became a reality: for those who naturally exited.
Fascism has been the embodiment of the absolute form of all power relations: racism,
nationalism, chauvinism, misogynyism, homophobia, militarism ...
For us, fascism is the birth of this world of oppression, exploitation and exclusion. That
is why it is treated in class terms, overturning the system that breeds it.
We call on the world of the struggle in a gathering on Tuesday 24/10 at 9:00 in the
Thessaloniki courts to demand the release of those arrested on 19 March and the lifting
of the charges against them.
