Trent Canal to Oswego Canal

After visiting with Al's family in Fenlon Falls we spent a day running errands and visiting with my kids. We then set off to complete the remaining 240 miles and 34 locks on the Trent- Severn Waterway. We stopped in Lakefield for a night and enjoyed a lovely dinner with Lee (a friend from high school) and her husband Pete. The next day we met up with my sister, Lee and Susanne (another old school chum) in Peterborough. There was some trouble with the lift lock so the girls and I went for lunch. When we returned, Lee and Jennifer took the trip down the lift lock with us. As we were dropping them off at the bottom of the lock Sue Ferguson and Gord Zimmerman, (a couple from Lagoon City Yacht Club) dropped by to say hi so we pulled over for a sundowner and a visit.

We had a little trouble with the depth and weed congestion on a few occasions but made it through the whole system (400 km and 45 locks) without any more breakdowns. After completing the last lock we stopped in Trenton for two nights so we could  visit my dad and brother in Toronto and complete some chores before heading off to Main Duck Island, our last stop in Canada.

Yesterday morning we headed off across Lake Ontario from Main Duck Island to Oswego, New York where we headed up the 8 locks of the Oswego Canal.

Last night we tied up to the free wall at Phoenix, New York. We spent a night here 5 years ago on our return from our Bahama trip. This town goes all out to welcome boaters. The wall and park area are well kept and there are tables and chairs for dining along the waterfront, there is free wifi, water, hydro, and pump out and washrooms and showers as well. There is usually a local to greet you, they offer information about the area and if needed a ride to the store.  Al went shopping trying to arrange a wifi package for the next two months, a ride to several stores was provided by Mike who greeted us at the dock.

This morning we replaced the strata glass window and while we were setting up Michel Bromley (Ivy Bromley's husband) introduced himself, small world, he is helping a friend bring his motorboat to Florida and they just dropped by the wall this morning to fix a problem with the generator.  We are now off to complete the first lock on the Erie Canal and head across Lake Oneida.
