Best friends,
The Dinagat bushy-tailed cloud rat is so rare I can't even show you what it looks like. That photo above? It's another type of cloud rat, a close relative that you may have a chance of seeing in your life. But the bushy-tailed cloud rat is so rare and so endangered, that until 2012 we thought it was extinct. If we don't act now to protect them, we really could lose them forever.
This cute rodent lives in the forests of just one island in the archipelago that comprises the Philippines. Having such an incredibly small range puts them at extreme risk for habitat loss, especially because there are no national land protections on the entire island.
The cloud rat's forests are already being gobbled up by development, and much of the wilderness that remains has already been claimed by mining companies. They could begin excavation at any time that would destroy even more habitat.
We don't have a moment to lose. We need to put pressure on officials in the Philippines to protect bushy-tailed cloud rat habitat now. These rodents have already risen from the dead once. We can't expect another chance to ensure their survival.
Thank you,
 Emily V.
