Dear friends,
For the past 10 years, Lasah the elephant has lived at Langkawi Elephant Adventures (LEA) in Malaysia. By day, they force him to give rides to tourists. By night, they keep him chained up by all four legs.
Despite receiving a Care2 petition signed by more than 400,000 people from all over the world, the Malaysian Ministry of Environment announced earlier this year that it would not remove Lasah from LEA. Since we have not yet been able to use political influence to free Lasah, we must now use economic influence.
Lasah's life has been marked by misery and exploitation. He deserves to live out the rest of his life with dignity, surrounded by other elephants.
Last fall, TripAdvisor stopped selling tickets to wildlife attractions that are cruel to animals. This is a step in the right direction, but they still support animal cruelty by continuing to allow promotion of these attractions on their site.
TripAdvisor is the world's largest travel site, and it has four pages promoting LEA. By keeping these pages up, the site is legitimizing LEA's cruel treatment of Lasah and probably sending tens of thousands of paying customers to the attraction each year. Just imagine the impact TripAdvisor could have if it refused to promote LEA until it freed Lasah.
Thank you,
 Lacey K.
