Human Rights Have No Borders Dear friends, John and I shared a deep belief that fighting for what you believe in takes courage, strength and vision. You must be courageous to stand up to powerful people who are driven by fear, greed and ego. You must have strength to take responsibility for helping the best of humanity rise up against wrongdoing. And you must have vision to strive for a more just future world despite the daily setbacks. That’s why I hope you’ll take part in Amnesty International’s Membership Drive. When you make a donation, you’ll join a movement of like-minded people — like me — who refuse to let hate, bigotry and injustice take root. - $50 becomes $100
- $75 becomes $150
- $150 becomes $300
The theme of this year’s Membership Drive is Human Rights Have No Borders. As I reflect on that statement, I think of two interdependent human rights catastrophes unfolding: The current administration’s anti-human rights agenda and the worldwide refugee crisis. Amnesty has been fighting the cruel agenda to close America’s doors to refugees and immigrants since January when the current administration announced a ban on travelers from selected Muslim-majority countries and refugees from anywhere. Amnesty has been engaging with key Senators to urge them to block this bigoted agenda by putting grassroots pressure through lobby visits and town halls. Meanwhile, Amnesty crisis investigators have been providing crucial evidence of crimes and abuses occurring in refugee hotspots like Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Yemen. This research helps publicize the atrocities fueling the refugee crisis and shines a light on the cruelty of global inaction in addressing the needs of families escaping violence. Amnesty needs people like you to support these efforts. They accept no money from governments or corporations. They depend on us — and on our courage, our strength and our vision.
