Dear friends,,
Petition author Vince has been photographing a particular pair of Mute Swans in Norfolk, England regularly for the last five years. They came to trust him and became his friends. But last weekend, all the swans on the lake vanished without a trace. There is no other water in the area and there are no known predators at these lakes. The pair were still raising eight baby cygnets so would not leave of their own accord.
Whilst many in Britain will eat ducks and geese, in some other countries swans are also killed for food. There are growing fears that people may have started poaching British swans to eat. Could this have happened to Vince's swan friends?
Vince says, "Swans are reportedly being taken from our waterways up and down the country and it's time to do something about it."
There are witnesses to men acting suspiciously in the area, in the period leading up to the disappearance of the swans. Fish had also disappeared from the lake and the car number plate of the suspicious men had been given to police.
Poaching of swans is a criminal offence. But despite the disappearance of these swans, the police wildlife crime officer has refused to investigate, on the basis of lack of evidence! But how will evidence of wildlife crime ever surface if no investigation ever takes place?
Thank you,
 Beth G.
