Its hard sometimes to know where to start .. All the money being sent to the Libyan 'authorities' by Italy and Europe is apparently 'paying off'.. and it may well be worse since the NGO's have been obliged to stop their work of saving people by threats and violence of the Libyan 'coast guard'
Today there starts a series of articles in Le Monde from a journalist about the situation being inflicted on migrants in Libya including this fairly disgustingly ambiguous editorial ,(see below)
It states that the numbers of migrants crossing from Libya has decreased by 57 % in just since June.. in part because of the war between different factions but also because of cooperation with Libyan border guards..while paying lip service to its concern for human rights the editorial's subtext is actually lamenting that 'migrants' may not have abandoned entirely their plans to come to Europe, just waiting the end of the conflict
Apart from the vague and utterly inadeqaute conclusion in the editorial that "of course" the European governments must work with the Libyan 'authorities ' so as to ensure not be complicit with mass rape, slavery and human rights violations not really detailed but we can imagine it is referring to mass kidnapping, extortion and other grave crimes of violence against migrants that has been documented and reported by migrants who have passed through Libya.
