Leaving out those great ones who have cut their niches in history, (the history of this
country is rich in fore-runners of Anarchism) such as Godwin Shelley, and Owen, I propose
to place on record some of the lesser known pioneers of the Anarchist movement. Of those
of a proletarian origin, Dan Chatterton stands out as one who attracted most attention. In
front of me as I write, is a cabinet photo of this tattle spare old man, who, in his day,
was so well known in the parks, and every part of London where there were meetings of any
section of the advanced movement. There he was, selling the current issues ‘Freedom' and
‘Commonweal', especially pushing the sale of his own tattle production ‘Chatteron's
Atheistic, Communistic, Scorcher'. (A full set is in the British Museum.) He usually
created both sensation and amusement by rapidly announcing his paper as "an appeal to the
half-starved, herring-gutted, poverty-stricken, parish-damned, inhabitants of this
dis-united kingdom!"
This paper appeared in pamphlet form, whenever possible, in various kinds of type, and on
varying kinds of paper. Through it ran his ‘Auto-biography of old Chat' which is a history
of the struggles of his time, and his frequent challenges to the Bishops and priests to
debate.
Mrs Beatrice Webb (Lady Passmore), in her book ‘The Story of My Apprenticeship", states
that when she was rent-collecting under Mrs Olivia Hill in the Drury Lame district,
Chatterton was one of her tenants. She says that he was reputed to have collected his type
from printers' dustbins, which he set up on his kitchen table, and his wife sat on the
formes, in order to get an impression; for he had no machine.
Richard Whiting, in his once famous novel "No 5 John Street", makes Chatterton one of his
leading characters, under the nom de plume of "Old 48", and says of his journal - ‘This
journal, if I may be pardoned the digression, has no circulation, yet it supports "48", as
he supports it. It is bought as a curiosity at public meetings and usually by persons who
have in view an inexpensive donation to the British Museum. Many who buy it make the
transaction an excuse for offering the proprietor an alms. It has every note of
singularity. It is printed on paper of a texture generally used for posters, and of the
hue of anaemic blood. Its orthography is that of the first standard, its syntax aspires to
the perfect freedom of the Anarchist ideal. Its is set up from a composite fount,
suggestive of a printer's dustbin, and containing so undue a proportion of capitals that
sometimes they have to take service out of their turn at the end of a word.
"It might appear to have a large staff for no two of its articles are signed by the same
name. "Brutus" writes the leader, "George Washington" supplies the reports of meetings;
"‘William Tell" supplies reminiscences of the Chartist rising and "Cromwell" acts as agent
for advertisements. To the untutored, however, these are but so many incarnations of one
commanding personality. When "48" has written the entire number, he sets it up, and
carries it to a hand printing press which Gutenburg would have considered crude. When the
press happens to be in a good humour, he obtains a copy by the ordinary method. When it
does not, he is still at no loss, for he lays the formes on the table, and prints each
sheet by pressure of the hand. Earlier difficulties of this sort were met by the
co-operation of his wife, now deceased. This devoted woman sat on the formes, and obtained
the desired results by the impact of a mass of corpulency estimated at fourteen stone. Her
death is said to have been accelerated by a sudden demand for an entire edition of a
hundred and seventy copies descriptive of a riot in Hyde Park. These earlier copies are
valued by collectors for the extreme sharpness of the impression."
John Henry Mackay, the German Anarchist poet, wrote a novel of the London Socialist
movement of the '80's called "The Anarchists", in which there is a very good pen-picture
of Chatterton.
"Chatterton, always of the poor, was always for the poor, and never shirked the fight.
Original, and strong in character, he fought all his life for his class. Individualistic
in temperament he believed that it was only in Communism that he could find liberty. A
militant Atheist, he was too logical to reject a government in the skies and accept one on
earth. He fought the politician as he fought the priest, for, as he often said ‘They were
twin vultures hatched from the same rotten egg.'"
Chatterton has passed on: he lives only in the few books mentioned above. The
poverty-stricken old fighter brings to our mind the words of William Morris:
"Named and nameless, all live in us;
One and all, they lead us yet:
Every pain to count for nothing,
Every sorrow to forget."

The terrorist attack by neo-Nazis in the United States led to a wave of anti-fascist
rallies. ---- When Saturday's social networking of Charlottesville, Virginia, photographs
of hundreds of torches with torches and invading the handful of students who stood there,
one felt fear and anger. For the fifty-thousand-year-old American city, who was
involuntarily hosting a spectacular, right-handed, spectacular extreme action "Unite the
Right" at the time, but hell was just beginning. ---- The next day in Charlottesville, he
began to scatter hundreds of Nazis armed with sticks, shields and pepper sprays, and
protected by a paramilitant squad in firearms. The antifascists were obvious to go tough,
and the fighting broke out fairly soon. To the surprise of the racists, anti-fascists,
though in the minority, have been able not only to defend themselves, but also to defeat
the clutter of neo-Nazis, alt-right trolls, Ku-Klux-Klan members and Trump's fans in blood
and pepper Sprays. The incredible deployment of anti-fascists and anarchists (with the
support of the Redneck Revolt group of armed assault rifles) on the streets and the
willingness to continue the action, despite many injuries over the course of the day,
overcame the force ratio.
Suddenly, the crowd of anti-fascists and leftist protesters came at full speed with a
passenger car. It smashed about twenty people before it hit the other parked cars - and
then immediately retreated. There were a number of heavily injured men on the street after
the lightning strike, prompting the medical staff present at the demonstration to help.
They provided first aid until the rescue arrived.
Still, they were unable to save everyone. Heather Heyer, a 36-year-old left-wing activist,
trade unionist and anti-racist, suffered injuries.
While anti-fascists from Charlottesville pushed the rest of the Nazis and some
right-wingers were left in total chaos to be tampered with the police, news of the attack
spread across the globe to the world, and several other solidarity events took place that
day. As a driver of a car used as a weapon, James Fields was identified as a young
colleague captured on videos of a previous right-wing action and photographed recently
with a shield and members of the neo-Nazi Vanguard America.
But solidarity in the greatest power has only begun in the next few days. Solidarity with
the victim of the attack was publicly expressed by anti-fascists not only in tens of
places in the United States but also in Switzerland, Denmark or Slovakia. An exception was
not Prague, where we gathered on Monday night at Kinsky Square for a solidarity event
called the No Racism Initiative.
As it slowly became melted, about a hundred people gathered at the fountain in the square.
Some of them picked up pickets, and two banners appeared. A memorial to the fallen for the
liberation of Prague, for which we met in Kinsky Square, quickly surrounded the candles
lit by the portrayal of the murdered Heather Heyer. The atmosphere was serious, and
neither the passers-by nor the passers-by stopped them to find out what was going on, not
even a few cops in the corners of the area.
After a brief introduction and a minute of silence, a series of speeches came.
Representatives of the Non-racism Initiative, Hlavaq and Women 365, agreed in a speech
that our response to fascist terrorism must be action and solidarity. A speaker from the
Anarchist Federation added that in the struggle against the far right it is essential for
society to get rid of the liberal myth that fascists and anti-Fascists are just two
intertwining groups of extremists, as it is impossible to accept the image of
proto-fascists and fascists as patriots and defenders "Traditional values" that they are
trying to create.
The action ended in a revolting atmosphere. There were dozens of candles lit by Heather
Heyer at the Monument of the Fallen, and all our determination to continue the fight at
which she died. Grieving for the dead, fighting for the living!

The Brazilian Anarchist Coordination (CAB) expresses its repudiation and indignation
against the fascist attack that left 1 person dead and more than 20 injured in
Charlottesville, USA. ---- smash racism and fascism ---- The Brazilian Anarchist
Coordination (CAB) expresses its repudiation and indignation against the fascist attack
that left 1 person dead and more than 20 injured in Charlottesville, USA. The attack is a
product of the fascist and right-wing (and Alt-right) hatred that has been growing
stronger and stronger since the election of Donald Trump. The action of the white
supremacists, racists and self-called fascists are whenever possible, softened or covered
up by the liberal governments, the judicial system, and their media. We should let
everyone know that the fascist ideas that inspire the US supremacists also begun to
inspire other similar initiatives in Brazil.
A driver participating in the "Join the Right" protest hit the anti-fascist protesters and
killed activist. We declare our solidarity to all the militants who have been hit.
Let's not forget also about the daily supremacist attacks that take place in the
peripheries and favelas of Brazil perpetrated by the military service forces from the State.
May our dead have no minute of silence, but a whole life of struggle.
Destroy white supremacy!
Destroy racism!
Smash capitalism!
Fascists, racists, will not pass!

On Saturday, August 12, 32-year-old left-wing activist and human rights activist Heather
Heyer was murdered in Charlottesville, USA during a demonstration against the far right.
Heather died in a terrorist attack carried out by James Fields JR. - White nationalist and
racist, sympathizer of the organization Vanguard America (American Vanguard) entering high
speed car with a crowd of demonstrators and demonstrators, killing one person and wounding
another 19. ---- Far right-wing groups and parties (including Ku-Klux-Klan ) have called
for a demonstration of "unite the right" on Saturday, August 12, to protest the plans to
remove the monument to General Robert E. Lee, the leader of Charlottesville. Confederate
soldiers of the Civil War, fighting for slavery in the southern United States. In response
to the right-wing initiative, left-wing organizations (including the Democratic Socialists
of America , to which Heather belonged), trade unions (among others the Industrial Workers
of the Word ) and minority rights advocacy organizations . Black Lives Matter anti-racist
movement convened a counter-manifestation against racism and nationalism. As a result of
the aggression of the extreme right and passive attitude of the police, numerous strikes
and street battles have taken place, culminating in the act of terror by Fields Jr..
The American Workers 'Union, associated with the Workers' Initiative, issued a statement
after the attack, calling for the fight against neo-fascist, racist and extreme right-wing
movements. IWW has identified fascism as "a deadly threat, from the need to confront with
which there is no escape"[link], pointing to passivity both from the police and the campus
of the campus where the murder occurred. The union also called for self-organization and
support for the anti-fascist movement.
This is not the first example of terror on the extreme right in the USA. A similar event
took place on January 20th. In Seattle, during an anti-racist rally, a member of the IWW
was shot by an extreme right-wing[link]
The Worker Initiative solidifies itself with all Charlottesville victims and joins calls
to engage the union movement in the fight against the extreme right. We remember that in
our country, as often as our demonstrations and pickets are attacked by our native
fascists from organizations such as All-Polish Youth, National Radical Camp, National
Rebirth of Poland and the National Movement, and their members and leaders (eg Krzysztof
Bosak) They praised the rally "Unite the Right" by downplaying the murder they have done
to their adoptive ideals.
We will not forget, we will not forgive!
The impact on one or one of us will be a blow to everyone!
