Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (Zanaco) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in the Commercial Division under the Corporate Banking Department at Head Office:-

JOB PURPOSE
To define and drive the Bank’s corporate banking strategy and ensure achievement of the Bank’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) portfolio growth and financial performance targets. This includes building and leading CIB teams to originate, maintain and develop corporate customer relationships, drive sales, balance sheet growth and risk management.
Under the supervision of the Chief Commercial Officer, the following are among the Job Key Responsibilities:-
  • Translating the overall Bank strategy into the CIB strategy and operational/tactical plans.
  • Understand, stay abreast and provide insights on sector, market developments to support strategic planning, decision-making and maintaining a competitive edge.
  • Identify market opportunities and develop actionable and innovative plans to capture them.
  • Ensure alignment of all department activities to the Bank’s and CIB strategy and plans.
  • To take responsibility of the overall performance of CIB and its constituent teams.
  • Managing and coordinating the activities of the business units and personnel under CIB including distribution and control of tasks.
  • Develop internal department structures, set and allocate department targets and resolve any performance issues.
  • Communicate strategy/plans to staff and promote awareness and ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.
  • Be responsible for and provide on a regular basis relevant information and reports on CIB to the Chief Commercial Officer and Management Board.
  • Represent the Bank in external forums.
  • Lead projects and be responsible for business origination and ensure the growth of CIB.
  • To originate and manage a portfolio of Corporate and Investment Banking clients to grow the client base and increase wallet share of existing ones.
  • Ensure attainment of department financial objectives including asset/liability, and income growth and cost management targets.
  • To ensure effective cross selling of the Bank’s products.
  • To engage clients and understand their requirements so as to develop product proposals/solutions as well as provide guidance to CIB teams.
  • To oversee the provision of effective investment banking solutions including corporate finance and deal structuring.
  • To contribute to the effective management of the Bank’s Corporate credit risk by overseeing client loan facility negotiations and providing input into credit policies and procedures.
  • To develop effective corporate underwriting standards and review and authorize credit applications.
  • Proactively manage all risks associated with the creation of assets where this is the direct responsibility of Corporate Banking.
  • Achieve desired returns on capital and growth targets with regard to the Corporate banking business.
  • Monitor Corporate Banking product performance, account performances and facility utilizations of existing borrowing customers and ensure regularization of accounts.
  • Develop/provide input into CIB annual budgets and ensure effective cost management and increased profitability.
  • Maintenance and growth of customer relationships and identification of opportunities in those relationships.
  • Identification of business requirements in respect of the product and solution requirements needed to satisfy customer needs and requirements.
  • Ensure regular customer visits and keeping abreast with developments in various markets and industries that customers operate in.
  • Oversee and ensure effective Corporate Customer service centre operations and ensure their mandates to the Bank are actioned on time.

  • External: GRZ Representatives, Corporate Entities, Regulators
  • Internal: All Divisions
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Grade 12 Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects.
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Banking or other relevant fields.
  • A Masters Degree would be an added advantage.
  • At least eight (8) years banking experience, more particularly in the corporate and investment banking and relationship management with at least (4) years in a management position.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of corporate products and clients and expertise in business development and planning.
  • Demonstrate good understanding of industry and economic and financial markets and ability to derive insights from market events and information.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation e.g. KYC, Anti - Money laundering, Banking code.
