| China’s treatment of this democratic voice had been brutal and inhumane, even in his last days. Liu Xiaobo has been imprisoned since 2008 for his pro-democracy activities, but China’s brutal and inhuman treatment of him had not lessened even after his terminal illness was reported last month. Despite needing urgent medical treatment, Chinese authorities refused to give him what he asked for and deserved – freedom. Liu Xiaobo was a champion of nonviolence and human rights, and his legacy will be remembered in China and throughout the world. |
